Just in my workplace at least five guys I know started using a flip phone who never had one before. A good portion of them have zero social media, not even a private Instagram account. They are basically unreachable outside of a phone call or if you happen to know what anonymous forum they use in their spare time.I think the only people I know who say they keep an active profile are women and gays. What are the consequences of a large proportion of males under the age of 40 cutting themselves off of the surveillance-advertising industrial complex?

It is getting to the point where you cannot operate in society without a smartphone. I ditched smartphone entirely 2015-2020 and again for 2024. Can't do a lot of workplace functions without one, and you often need a smartphone for 2 form authentication. Plus nobody knows how to give directions anymore and roadways are no longer signed for basic navigation. So you need the fucking GPS.
