Smartness cannot be faked, it can only be imitated poorly. If you are interested in the idea of economy in writing I recommend studying epigrams, many well-known writers wrote epigrams. Epigrams give you a sense of how to compress hugely complicated thoughts into the simple conclusion you are trying to express. Also to be honest the only way to learn to write is to read an enormous amount of books.
