The music was mixed with the intent that you don't hear singular instruments but instead hear one unified sound. Rock was so generic sounding at the time that most tracks sounded like something you just pulled out of your ass.2nd, millennials still listened to radio at the time. Since rock stations were flooded with the same generic buttrock on repeat or overplayed 90s songs, Folk music being played on the radio was a huge breath of fresh air. Of course the big bands all licensed their hit songs to just about anyone so the genre quickly became commercial fodder on top of just being overplayed like crazy.
