I try asking LLMs questions somewhat often now. My experience is they are incredibly unreliable. A certain subset of my prompts cause a high rate of hallucinations. When I ask these kinds of questions, I know I am most likely going to get bullshit, but sometimes I get lucky so I still try it. The fundamental issue is LLMs will never tell you "I don't know". The technology is designed at a fundamental level to hallucinate whenever it encounters something it doesn't know.The best way to use AI that I've found so far is to treat it like a search engine. Ask it to find websites, articles, or papers. I find it so funny that all this money has been poured into this technology yet the pinnacle of its reasoning ability allows it to serve as a sophisticated search engine that is often worse than a regular search engine.
