Good. college is becoming oversold and genuinely selling hopes and dreams for tuition. This is the reality.

STEM only:
1. ivy league
2. flagship state university

that's it, those are the only 2 real high yield choices. networking is the #1 priority, everything else is whatever.

you have 6 months after graduating to land a first job that will determine your career trajectory or else you get the permanent "scarring effect", I think about 70-80% of graduates that are underemployed remain that way for the next 10 years. Yes your degree does go "stale" as new grads flood in, if you're out of work for a year plus, yes you went stale.

Your first job determines your path, this is reality. If you did not land that big entry level job, well that's in. now stay at mid-cap companies forever.

AI girlfriends/boyfriends are a multi-billion dollar industry for a reason. there is nothing stopping AI from understanding human psychology quite well. There is nothing unique or ethereal about emotion that can't be put into words and described. long before the AI boom even happened computer vision could accurately gauge a person's emotion by their body language and face.

>Between 2021 and 2025, China's higher education institutions revoked or suspended 12,200 undergraduate degree programmes while introducing 10,200 new ones, meaning that more than 30% of the nation's university programmes underwent adjustments, according to Ministry of Education data cited by Xinhua.
>The cuts have been heavily concentrated in arts, humanities, foreign languages and management - fields that are increasingly deemed outdated or oversaturated in China, where more than 16% of young people are unemployed and the job market is being rapidly transformed by artificial intelligence.
>Many of the new programmes, meanwhile, are closely aligned with Beijing's economic development goals. For instance, nine universities have added new majors in embodied intelligence, which dovetails with a national drive to speed up the integration of next-generation AI into the real economy.

"studying" art is retarded anyways, you wanna draw shit? okay, buy a pencil, have fun, there's no need for state funded schools for that, if you have talent you'll make cool stuff anyways, and if you don't then no amount of studying will make you talented, at best these "schools" just produced people who could mass produce generic "art" mechanically to slap on cereal boxes and shit, now that AI can take care of mass produced mechanical art they're completely useless

AI still hasn’t managed to create something new.
It cannot do research.
It cannot innovate.
It can only regurgitate what it has learned.
If you kill the innovator in favor of the replicator, you will end up stagnating or even regressing because of negative feedback loops.

I say this as a tech guy, hating arts and humanities is dumb and small brained.

The article is worded in such way to make China look bad regardless of how you look at it, even if Chinese did absolutely nothing
The specialists on arts and crafts are already overfilling the jobs market with skilled people making youtube content with ancient Chinese arts and crafts techniques for a living.
The young generations see the need of specialists in tech, including AI but main need of specialists is the energetic sector because they develop cold fusion and many other crazy stuff.
They realized energy is key and electric is the easiest produced energy.

>if you have talent you'll make cool stuff anyways, and if you don't then no amount of studying will make you talented
You understand that human-made drawn art is a practice in the same way writing is a practice, right? It's not inherently valuable or inherently irreplaceable in the way that writing isn't as well, but it's not as though you can just draw complex cartoons with no study. What schools do for skills like art is they (allegedly) give you exposure to concepts, insights, and techniques used by people who actually do that kind of work while letting you practice. It changes the way you think about the problem in front of you and gives you the opportunity to practice something repeatedly while getting feedback from people experienced in the field. Financially it's not worth it for the majority, but there's certainly a reason why it exists- it's just not as much in demand, in the same way most people don't buy boots made by hand any more.
Engineering and programming as fields aren't inherently superior or immune to this kind of manufactured material either. Anything that can be systematically explained in language terms can be interpreted and repeated by a machine. The actual issue is firstly that this introduces a massive haves/have nots dynamic which is going to result in social upheval eventually and secondly the problem that emerges when the majority of humans don't understand the underlying concepts that make things fundamentally work anymore, so that when something (inevitably) happens, the number of people who can actually do without the machines becomes way smaller and way more critical.
Not that I expect you care about any of this.

Of course it's a financial decision. Politics is fundamentally about who gets what, when, where, and why. In this case, it's about the Chinese government getting the students it thinks it wants four years from now (more accurately 12+ years from now because systems are hilariously slow to implement real systematic changes) and therefore the workers it wants down the line.

I work in the universities sector and I will tell you fags now that there is going to be an absolute wave of redundancies and curbings of dumb shit universities waste money on in the coming years.
The UK private education sector (which I include universities in) simply cannot survive woke bullshit any more. The private schools are already scrambling thanks to Labour government's change in the rules around VAT but the universities are next, mark my words.
The warning signs abound now, but the fundamentals are a plateau in demand (caused by the universities undermining themselves in the eyes of wealthy foreigners with endless brainless woke bullshit while inflating the fuck out of their international fees, that they rely on, as degrees in East Asia which are much cheaper look ever more enticing) along with unbelievably easy conditions for decades meaning that the people at the top are selected mostly for their ability to get along with the people already there (uniformly Marxists, homosexuals, women, swingers, wogs and combinations thereof) and are now totally unfit to handle the inevitable consequences of the situation they have created.
When the money goes in the red and the bankers start asking questions at some point, if it stays red, they will come in and sit down with the woke wally and his or her or xir's band of sidekicks who are now somehow in charge of everything and start looking at the finances themselves. And that's when a lot of the nonsense finds itself unceremoniously cut.
The cutbacks are coming and it is long overdue.

when did liberal arts education lose its respect?

historically, liberal arts have always been woven into the fabric of post secondary academia, but nowadays if you tell someone you're majoring in philosophy or political science you get laughed at.

I have some bad news for you. All education either is or becomes indoctrination. Even great thinkers eventually start making decisions based on what they want to be true rather than what "the evidence" (however you get your "evidence", which is half of the problem) suggests. The reason for this is simple: Would you rather give resources to someone who agrees with you, or someone who could disagree with and oppose you? Would you rather spend your entire life advancing in a field only for it to render your life hollow and meaningless, or would you rather create a meaning that doesn't actually exist as a kind of emotional safe haven?

We exist but we were very much under siege for a few years there. I survived an attempted cancellation and then later threats of firing because I just didn't take the covid vax. It seems to be changing now as the focus shifts to asking who we actually need to run a business and the dumb cunts who spend the work day gossipping and shit-stirring are starting to get bad news or worry for their own jobs after their friends got bad news.
Too late for them, I'm afraid. Good luck in the job market out there at the moment. I hear it's a little challenging though!
