My theory is that zoomers have a lingering neuroticism about this because they grew up online during a time when "the internet" as a cultural space had already matured and was populated by now-adults, in contrast to e.g. the mid-2000's when that was new and there was a distinctly youthful vibe wherein you could reliably assume that everyone you were interacting with was in their teens or 20's. 4chan during that era for example sounded very much like everyone was basically in high school, but by the 2010's and early 2020's young zoomers were entering those same spaces whose existing populations were now older
