What does /pol/ think of dry counties? Are they justified? How is your relationship with alcohol? Can committed alcoholics ever go back to controlled drinking?

This site is so full of teetotaler homos who think drinking wine with dinner is "alcoholic" behaviour

No-alcohol societies seem far more deranged than societies that drink. Everything in moderation but occasional drink is no detriment to your health—and in my opinion positively affects emotional disposition.

It got pretty bad for me. It didn't take as much as it does for some (I'm a lightweight) but I was getting the shakes while sipping vodka all day just to try to stay sane. I couldn't sleep unless I had at least 200 mL of something strong, and I had to drink more to get back to sleep a few hours later. In conjunction with the problems I was trying to deal with, it was a hellish existence

it's unwise to take health suggestions from 4chan. no need to even waste time criticizing it. anyone stupid enough to listen deserves the consequences. same goes for AI trying to tell you how to behave ("get the clotshot!")

>>
>>537092903
banning it for everyone is dumb, but some people should be banned from drinking.
>>
>>537092903
My county used to be completely dry but the county seat put it up to a vote and decided to become a wet town. Then a few other towns did.
I think it's an retarded relic from the prohibition era.
>>
>>537094116
You can drink alcohol they just can't sell it in a dry county.
>>
>>537092903
I grew up in what was proudly called the wettest dry county in America. The county sits on the state border, and with about a dozen main highway border crossings located across the county, every single one had liquor and package states immediately across the state line. These “out of states” stores were owned by businessmen within our county who always used their influence the keep the county nominally dry. It’s a scheme that monopolizes the industry for the powerful individuals robbing not just other businessman but the local governments via taxes and entire county at large of revenue. And they have the power of their law on their for anyone who goes against the scheme. Then I got older and realized this is every dry county. They are all actually Chicago-style prohibition counties, dry in name only and controlled by the local mafia syndicate. The movie series Walking Tall is based on a real person in a real dry county who tried to fight this system

Funny how it's almost always a racket like this
>>
>>537092903
It's a slippery slope. It convinces you it's making you feel better while conversely it makes you feel like shit at all other times, so you drink more to try and not feel like shit which only makes it worse later.

Banning it is fucking stupid, it's something you need a cultural solution for.

My brother is OBSESSED with AI. He literally asks it everything. We are gym buddies, right, we're working out he's taking forever to change the weight for his set, and he tells me he's asking chatGPT for what weight he should increase it to despite him doing these weight for a year now. I thought he was joking. He's always talking about Claude and shit now

Just stop drinking spirits. It's bloody hard to be a drunk on beer. Anything used as a coping mechanism is bad for you. Did you make this thread just to blogpost?

It's a horrific feedback loop, especially if you got into it because of unrelated stressors. They never taught us about how alcoholism actually works in school and I'm convinced that even many medical professionals don't fully understand it, they have a layman's perspective and just use generic, outdated protocols to half-assedly treat it. Second only to benzo withdrawal, wouldn't wish that on anyone but my worst enemy. Although alcohol withdrawal might be more intense in the short term

Stupid and irresponsible government. In a time of crisis, a family couldn't even own a still to make anything useful, much less alcohol, without being branded a felon. As a homesteader, it pisses me off that I can't even make my own disinfectants.

that AI reliance is only going to get more common. for example, why risk looking dumb by asking others a question when you can quietly ask AI?
>>
>>537094429
>Did you make this thread just to blogpost?
Yup. I'm wondering if it's possible to go back to controlled drinking after being a serious alcoholic for years. I can't socialize without booze.
>>
>>537095001
Because looking dumb is a largely imaginary and inconsequential problem whereas relying on an advanced chatbot that is best at sounding legit while spewing out a bunch of half hallucinated garbage you can only vet with expertise and critical thinking skills just creates a feedback loop of ignorance
Option 1) feel foolish and learn
Option 2) stay comfortable and become a literal retard
>>

learn? that sounds uncomfortable. i just need the solution right now. i'd prefer not learning anything. and i don't want to look foolish of course.

I think the dangers of alcohol could be almost entirely eliminated if they just invented a pill that keeps tolerance from building up.

If you have zero tolerance even a single beer can get you tipsy. But then week by week you build up tolerance until you have to do a few shots + a few beers to even feel anything.

I have to imagine there's a way to disable tolerance at a biological level. Alcohol kills because eventually your tolerance is so high you need a pint of vodka to feel anything. If you could stay at the "2 beers makes me feel great" stage, then alcohol would be basically harmless.

You're putting a lot of definites while asking for advice. If you truly can't socialise without drinking well I guess you shouldn't socialise then: What kind of answer can someone give here that you won't just shoot down? Just foster a less destructive relationship with alcohol

Have a beer or wine with dinner instead of "sipping vodka to go to sleep". Get a hold of yourself. There's no advice that can be given on here that will stop you being a compulsive drunk. So I advise no one to pat you on the back for this mope. Either go to AA or freeze your debit/credit card so you can't buy booze

My mistake for thinking this was gonna be an actual discussion on alcohol jurisdiction

>What does /pol/ think of dry counties?
Used to work fine. Cut down on women drinking in public.

>Are they justified?
Yes. If you are too female or brown you should have no legal access to alcohol.

>How is your relationship with alcohol?
Drink occasionally, was a drunk in college.
Moderation is key.

>Can committed alcoholics ever go back to controlled drinking?
No.
The problem is not the alcohol, but the alcoholic. Your utter lack of self-discipline and tendency to get addicted to ANYTHING is the problem. Your only viable course of action is to STOP and never pick it up again.
I was a drunk.
I could match you or best you in drinking.
I can also simply stop.
Sometimes I don't drink for months.
When I do, it's because I'd like to, not because I have some burning desire to fill the hole in my soul with alcohol.

People like me can stop and start back.
You can't.
You need to just stop.
Fill the hole in your soul first, or don't even bother stopping. You'll just screw it up anyway.
>>
>>537092903
Alcohol is not great, especially not when drunk too much, but it does serve as very effective social lubricant, also it is an effective tool to ensure relatively safe clean drinkable moisture in less developed countries.
Similarly it provides some protection against yet worse ruinous afflictions, primarily islam but not limited to it.

I myself barely drink and always discourage excessive consumption, but it has enough positives to consider it a net benefit for most.
>>
>>537095839
Why do posts like these always neglect the fact that people also enjoy the taste? Maybe that's why you don't drink. Also, good lord man, if you're gonna type like an 18 year old pseudo intellectual try to cut down on the redundant words. Painful to read and makes you look a right dope.
>>
>>537095649
>But then week by week you build up tolerance until you have to do a few shots + a few beers to even feel anything.
No.
I've been drinking since about 1993 and I have never built up a tolerance.
You simply STOP drinking.
Don't drink seven days a week.
Better yet, don't drink more than three.
Don't drink for breakfast.
Don't drink because you have nothing better to do.

Addiction is a mental problem, not a chemical one.
>>
>>537095839
homemade alcohol is basically impossible to fuck up on the safety front, even distilled. Only gets dangerous when people go out of their way to poison it (like the feds did during prohibition)
Too much copper is kind of a thing with moonshine if the still isn't maintained at all, but that's more of a after 30 years of it issue.
Like methanol is the only half-way common thing that will get you drunk but also kill you, but it's antidote is ethanol. Iso alcohol the only realistic danger is respiratory depression and aspiration after you drink too much(like regular booze)
>>
>>537092903
The Dionysian Spirit built the West. All anti-alcohol posters are goatfuckers. Simple as.
>>
>>537095730
That was years ago. I do want opinions on whether or not it's possible to walk it back once you've already crossed that line, though. If you've never gone there, you probably don't know.
>>
>>537095740
The things I'm grappling with or missing don't have much to fo with alcohol. I can put it down without craving it, my issue is that if I drink too much I have a tendency to binge and drink a full 12 pack or whatever
>>
>>537096413
Alcohol addiction is a physiological ("chemical") problem
>>
bump
>>
>>537096413
Like a 6 pack a night for years is where you maybe (just maybe) start to develop a physical addiction, depending on genetics that much might never do anything to you as long as you don't get hangovers easily.
Also believing that addiction doesn't exist immediately outs you as a Mexican or Native American, try better next time.
>>
>>537099920
If you slam those 6 in a short period for just a couple of weeks straight you have a physical addiction. The harder and longer you go, the stronger it is. Just try it. My resting heart rate went from somewhere between 60 and 80 to between 110 and 140 for a couple of weeks when I first realized I was in a situation

I think it's fine to deny sales of the liquid jew if that's what the people living there want.

People should also be allowed to distill their own liquor too, so long as they're not selling it (barter should be allowable).
>>
>>537093962
Same. I was drinking about 1L of vodka day. Now I've been sober for 5 years.

I miss drinking occasionally when I forget how bad things were. Not bad enough to try it again. I know I can't drink moderately.
>>
>>537092903

>>
>>537092903
I like some drinks, but getting drunk is a no-no(i hate it). Anyone that can't handle drugs or alcohol is a weak-willed reprobate IMO. I can use all drugs responsibly and without getting addicted or wrecking my life.
>>
>>537102129
It's easier when you don't have any real problems in life
>>
>>537102251
Oh I've got problems, I just never turned to substances for reprieve. I don't gamble either. For me, holding discipline over my mind is of the utmost importance. I don't want to get in trouble end end up killing large amounts of people, so I have spent decades honing mental control to stop me from becoming a monster. This has had the secondary effect of making vice not an issue for me to control.

Alcohol is evil. I’m one year sober, and it’s incredible how many elements of my life have dramatically improved in such a short time. I ceased being content wasting my free time drinking and doing faggy shit like going to bars, and as a result, got back in shape, made $400k last year, and expect to make even more this year. Once you start drinking regularly, it’s incredibly easy to convince yourself that its normalization is acceptable while blinding yourself from the fact that you’re embracing mediocrity. Fuck that shit.
