I straight-up think the Eden story is talking about what we were like in a preincarnate state and that being clothed in the flesh of animals and sent out of Eden into the world to suffer through laboring and reproducing is becoming incarnate as an animal on earth and having to undergo the suffering of living in an entropic world. Eden is eternal non entropic providence and we gave it up because we were tempted to by the serpent and by duality, underwent a shift in consciousness, and were subsequently cast out into what people call Samsara. Adam and Eve are even explicitly given fertility curses here and told that the default state of the world is going to be against their generation-entropy. They need to reproduce (which is costly and painful for Eve) and toil (which is costly and painful for Adam) because the world is one that always trends towards a default state of death and barrenness unless perpetually striven-against.
