The real answer is because servers used to get paid 2 dollars an hour and in some states they still do. Servers also used to actually be personable and work to provide a pleasant experience. This also allowed restaurants to sell their food for less since they were saving on labor cost. Now most states especially the blue ones are forcing restaurants to pay them minimum wage. Which in some of those leftoid shitholes is like 18 bucks. Which is why you are paying $20 dollars for a cheeseburger. So I always check when I travel. I won't tip if you are paid minimum wage. And I also won't tip you provide me dogshit service regardless of how much your base pay is.

Anyone demanding a tip by definition should never get one.

As someone who worked back of the house for over 20 years, fuck servers. I can think of one that was actually worth a damn in all my years cooking and he wasn’t even a server he was a bartender. The rest of them deserve to be put into labor camps so they can learn what it means to actually work.
