Most of society would be fine with that because they understand it’s a level of escalation involving a deadly weapon and attempt to kill the other person.

Metcalf shoving him does count as assault, but just because someone has assaulted you doesn't give you the right to follow them home and assault them back. What you have is the right to charge them with assault. However, if Karmelo had punched him in response and then Metcalf fell and hit his head on the ground and died, that wouldn't be murder. Ultimately, he killed him because Metcalf disrespected him. That's how hood / thug culture works, and it's shocking how many people (not just blacks) agree with the concept, and don't see any difference between doing that and legitimately defending your life. They feel that once someone has shown you a certain level of disrespect, you are allowed to kill them. Obviously this goes against so much of our specific civilization's foundational ethos.
