The war in afghanistan had a goal that was achieved, but the US created a power vacuum and felt like it couldn't leave until some stability came (it never did). Either way in both of those the scoreboard was in US favor by staggering margins. Same with the Iran war. The damage done to iran versus any losses incurred by the US were staggeringly in US favor. Military victories for certain. Policy victories, questionable.

It's not to win,but to have the excuse to spend more money on weapons so the right people get the right kickbacks.

They have no clue what the strategic aim is, what the consequences are, and how to accomplish it. Instead they rely on the brute force power of the US military to try to get a win.
