I need somebody to explain to me what makes Iran so different compared to other Muslim countries? In all of modern history, Muslims have been getting their shit kicked in by the west pretty handily and haven't won a conventional war (insurgencies don't count) once. Iraq was toppled in a month, Libya was destroyed without a single boot on the ground, Israel fended off Egypt and Syria multiple times, Afghanistan was a playground for the US and Soviets for several decades, etcetera. Hell even Turkey got a pretty damn good spanking in WW1 without much to show for it in the end, yet this war marks pretty much the first time a Muslim country has defeated a western one in open combat since the Austro-Turkish war in the early 1700s, so what makes Iran unique? Even the one other time a Muslim force got out of a war with Israel in a position that wasn't unambiguously a loss (Hezbollah in 2006) they were trained, funded, and armed directly by the Iranians. What do Persians get right that other mudslimes don't?
