This is a Republic of China Presidents Tier List thread. Please rank the presidents based on how well they did in the role!
Today is the National day of the Republic of China!

As shitty as he was, Taiwan would not exist without Chiang Kai-Shek, so I'm forced to put him in S-tier.

Lee Teng-Hui is also S-tier but that's because he actually deserves it for ending the Chiangs' fake and gay "martial law" scam.

Crazy Cat Lady only gets a 'B' because she tried to shut off all of Taiwan's nuclear reactors.

Chen Shui-bian gets 'A' tier because he governed decently despite being constantly sabotaged by the KMT, who even tried to assassinate him.

The current guy hasn't done anything worth assigning a tier yet.

I'd keep going but the thread needs a bump rfn.

FFS most of these guys are from when the KMT was nothing but a bunch of Leninist warlords who let their country be invaded and shredded by Grorious Nippon. I'd never even heard of Du Xigui before. Props to you for being so autistic that you included them. I'm going to dump most of them on the D-tier next to Chiang Ching-kuo. The less objectionable ones can go on the C-tier.

Also, fuck Mayor Ma, that nigger tried to sell out Taiwan's youth with his Cross-Strait Services Agreement. The only good thing about him was that the Sunflower Movement resulted in the permanent destruction of the KMT as a viable democratically-elected party.

>Today is the National day of the Republic of China!
BTW, I thought National Day was October 10th, and I just checked, and it is. Is today even a holiday in Taiwan?

Yesterday was Dragon Boat Festival, so I hope you got to eat some zongzi. But that's over even in Alaska.

BTW, do you know why Taiwanese programmers always confuse Chiang Kai-Shek's birthday with Christmas? Because DEC 25 is OCT 31! Xaxaxaxaxa.
>>
>>537447879
At least you aren't one of those people who blindly believe the KMT lies about Yuan Shikai. He was a great man. He made mistakes, but he was not as villianous as he was made out to be
>>
>>537444337
Pan green frogs are straight up delusional. It was the kmt who build taiwan into the success she is today.
>>
>>537450017
The KMT was and is nothing but lies. They were just military gangsters who seized control of China after systematically weakening the Emperor. I only hope Taiwan can disentangle the KMT from their stranglehold on control of the military so that the KMT officers don't sabotage the defenses and betray Taiwan to the CCP in the event of an invasion.

Literally zero to connection to Taiwan. Never stepped foot on the island.

Also he was pro-PRC.

>His last visit to China was during the start of the Cultural Revolution as an honoured guest of Zhou Enlai, in 1966.

Posts like this just hurt the pro-China cause lol. They just show that KMT/CCP were Jewish.

>As shitty as he was, Taiwan would not exist without Chiang Kai-Shek, so I'm forced to put him in S-tier.

Taiwan existed before and would have existed without him.

If not for him Taiwan would have gone under US control after WW2 and would have just been made an independent country like South Korea and that would have basically been the end of the story. It would be another East Asian country and nobody would care about it.

Better ending.
>>
>>537451591
That is not imprisonment, he literally did not report his funds properly and was punished as such.
>>
>>537454408
Sorry, I meant to say that it was not arbitrary and biased imprisonment.
>>
>>537454244
What you seemed to not understand is that originally the Taiwanese were thrilled to be returned to China, and they held a celebration for the KMT landing on the island. It was after 228 and the KMT's very obvious corruption that everybody started to have massive problems with the KMT
>>
>>537445822
>Taiwan would not exist without Chiang Kai-Shek, so I'm forced to put him in S-tier.
S-teir to a general who lost to a communism peasant army lead by Mao?
>>
>>537454631
S tier because despite everything he did maintain the soverignty of the island from being taken by Commie bastards, and we get to hence enjoy the only part of China not tainted and destroyed by Commies.

Trust me I am very aware of the history.

It didn’t take anywhere near that long, by the way. In his book “Formosa Betrayed” George H. Kerr who observed the transition said it only took a few weeks before the Taiwanese who welcomed the Chinese as liberators wanted them gone.

The point is they would have been much better if Chiang and KMT had never landed on their shores.
>>
>>537454686
Oh fuck off he was shit in battle and you know it. Mao was literally a Guerilla Veteran of many years. Kai-Shek only lasted as he did because him and Mao were forced to team up when the Japs came attacking.

Mao literally had no interest in Taiwan at all until Chiang made an issue of it.

Mao’s position was that Taiwan should be independent like Korea and Vietnam after the Empire of Japan is destroyed.
>>
>>537454963
Yes that is true, and yes Chiang was really really shit at battle. But at least he did his best to maintain what he already has left from getting into the hands of the CCP.
>>537454859
Interesting enough, the CCP originally verbally supported Taiwanese independence.
>>
>>537455178
>Mao’s position
So you really believe in his crock of bullshit?
Mao originally even supported Hunan independence, where did that go?
He also supported once Xinjiang independence when the Soviets funded Uyghur revolutionaries during WW2.
He also supported even Inner Mongolian independence.
It's just lip service
>>
>>537455339
Yes because it came from a totally different place.

He and everyone else at the time saw Taiwan the same way they saw Korea, Okinawa, Vietnam, etc They called them Lost Territories. Places that had been under Chinese rule or influence in the past but fell outside of it before the Qing fell.

This only changed in the 1940s Chiang Kai Shek started claiming that he was going to annex Taiwan and Okinawa into the ROC after Japan is defeated.
>>
>>537455640
This is not true.
At the time during Yalta, Roosevelt talked about giving China (ROC) control over Vietnam, Korea, Okinawa, Taiwan, Manchuria, etc. But he only wanted Manchuria and Taiwan because he thought that this was the most valuable.
So yes, Chiang denied Vietnam, Korea, Okinawa.
>>
>>537455339
There also were other reasons why Chiang didn't want Okinawa and Vietnam and Korea.
1. He knew he was going to have to fight a civil war with the Commie bastards.
2. He was once a student of Japan's and he kinda feared them, and he knew that taking Okinawa away will create a huge powder keg that could drastically create tensions between Japan and China, so he told Roosevelt something like "uhhhhhhhhh, how about we rule Okinawa together?" Roosevelt then never talked about this again.
>>
>>537455640
>1. He knew he was going to have to fight a civil war with the Commie bastards.
Let me explain this point more. If you know you're going to fight a costly civil war with Commies and you instead send more troops to rule over more areas, then you are giving yourself a massive disadvantage.
>>
>>537455640
Let me iterate this again though because maybe you're interested in the history of things:
1. Technically Japan does not have soverignty over Okinawa, it merely has rights to administrate after the US left.
2. Technically Japan only proclaimed to give up soverignty over Taiwan, but nobody ever said that it must be given to China (ROC).
>>
>>537455849
In November 1942, Chiang's brother-in-law and ROC Foreign Affairs Minister, T.V. Soong, held a press conference in the United States where he publicly stated that after the war, China expected to take back Manchuria, Taiwan, and the Ryukyus

Ultimately yes he obviously backed down and they never got Okinawa. Chiang had instead proposed that they jointly control it which also didn’t happen. Chiang held out hope that the US would eventually return it to him. When instead it was finally to Japan the ROC govt began claiming the Senkaku Islands.

It seems very silly today in 2026 but it was not silly at all for people who lived through the Japanese invasion of China and still had fresh memories of Japanese militarism in their minds. They wanted a buffer between Taiwan and Japan.
>>
>>537456614
I think you mixed up the Ryukyu Islands with the Penghu Islands (Pescadores)
>>
File: IMG_0646.jpg (1.44 MB, 1284x2126)
1.44 MB JPG
>>537456329
I don’t know about point 1 but I’m obviously familiar with point 2. The idea that Taiwan has an undetermined status.
>>
>>537456822
No definitely not. Penghu was considered part of the territory of Taiwan.
>>
>>537456614
>>537457008
Nevermind I have seen the actual thing, yes TV Soong did say China would like Ryukyu islands, but that is merely the talk of one guy. Chiang Kai Shek is the one ultimately calling the shots.
The same kind of thing happened with the CCP. Originally a minister in a press conference stated that the CCP will not station troops in HK, but Deng Xiaoping then stated that yes troops will be stationed in HK. The guy was even chewed out severely for it.
So trust the actual ruler more than one of his ministers.

i am a Sun Yat Sen nigga myself

I'm ethnically Chinese, and I have reason to say he was massively overrated.
He was:
1. Heavily implicated in orchestrating the assassinations of important politicians like Song Jiaoren, Tao Chengzhang, etc.
2. When he was forced to leave Japan due to pressure from the Qing government he scammed his fellow revolutionaries by not only taking massive amounts of money from the Japanese but also taking away lots of money from his fellow revolutionaries in Japan, called the TongMengHui
3. He overthrew a legally elected government in Guangdong China headed by Chen Jiongming
4. To get money to become powerful he got aid from the USSR develop the KMT in Mainland China, but this also caused Communism to spread in China.
>>537457811
兄弟,你可否解釋你的排行?
>>
>>537444337
Give it to me straight, will this flag ever fly over the Mainland again? Surely the Chinese will want at least some form of liberal democracy sooner or later
>>
>>537457925
不行
>>
>>537457928
Not sure. On one hand, people in China due to the economic collapse are getting feisty and angry with the current administration, but on the other hand the people of Taiwan really don't want much to do with Mainlanders, and I don't blame them.
Who knows? Maybe Mainlanders can overthrow the government and install a new ROC themed government, maybe it won't.
>>
>>537457928
Why the fuck would anyone in China want liberal democracy?
>>
>>537458521
There are still tons of Little Pinks in China who are basically CCP bootlickers, but the CCP really did fuck up China's economy, and people are already starting to envy the West, envy Taiwan, etc.
>>
>>537458723
Factually opposite of the truth.
>>
>>537459390
Then tell me what I said was false? The existence of Little Pinks? The collapse of China's economy?
