HAM radio is the most boring hobby, they have radios with which they can communicate with people on the other side of the world by bouncing the signal from the ionosphere but they never have actual conversations they just talk about what kind of equipment they have and how they get rid of the electrical noise.

Your grandfathers 4chan

there must have been someone who broadcasted "nigger" over and over again
>>
>>537543525

The state (jews) would never discourage you from gaining skills to subvert the means of communication right?
>>
>>537543525
>niche hobby
>you clearly aren't into it
>yet you feel the need to make a reductionist rant about it
hmm i wonder who could be behind this
>>
>>537543685
As long as I can get cheap jailbroken baofengs there will be.
>>
>went and got my license on a whim
>bought some equipment
>got into SDR
>bought a HackRF
>lost interest hard
I never even sent any transmissions.
>>
>>537543525
Anon, the equipment and technical and engineering knowledge are literally the hobby
>>
>>537543525
You are a nigger.
I have four unrestricted Boofwang UV-5Rs (two in my bugout kit), and I'll broadcast on any node without an Amateur Licence here. Fuck the ACMAs (FCCs equivalent), come tongue my anus.

for me its the setup, to really enjoy it you need a good antenna setup and if you're in anywhere with an HOA is gonna be a tough time. some people will use the "flagpole" disguise but it's still limiting you.

i have found meshtastic stuff to be more interesting especially when you start getting into reticulum and decentralized internet groups.
>>
>>537543525
It's for angry boomers telling everyone else to get off the radio or they'll contact the proper authorities.
>>
>>537544057
No I hear mostly stuff from Cuba long range because commies won't let them see/talk to their families in the USA so that's how they talk.

No HOA and I only touched up on antenna theory. I made an AM antenna and was able to pick up my local airport traffic.

So you must live in Florida then?

Blackpilled guy lives somewhere in desert of utah/arizona/new mexico and he never once mentioned it's spics on there. He used picrel, maybe distance is shorter as i remember he had some trouble with diy antennas

Sounds way more exciting than scrolling /pol/
>>
>>537544057
I use ham sometimes and one guy hosts a trivia show. It's kinda wholesome..
>>
>>537544133
How big do the antennas get?
The older scouts build one when I was a boy scout and from what I can remember the antenna was crazy tall but maybe I just think it was because I was young.

My government would never allow private citizens to own a serious antenna.
>>
Digital modes are the only ones worth experimenting with. Once you get the basics of voice comms down, there's little reason to play with it anymore.
>>
>>537543525
I prefer listening to shortwave broadcasts instead of HAM operators. A lot of the state broadcasts and independent shows are more interesting.

You can do whatever the fuck you want, ham activity once you have the license is usually well protected.
Antennas are usually half of the wavelength so you can have 2 wires of 20m long on each side of your house for 80m band that os the lowest people usually use it's 3.5 mhz
>>
>>537543525
Less valuable in times of prosperity and peace, when the internet is free and not partitioned. It's the best time to use it and practice for when it isn't. All of you should get into decentralized communications now while its accessible and easy to learn. At least get GMRS and CB as there is little to no licensing or testing associated.

I made an am antenna with about 150 feet of old 12 awg romex wire (from an old well pump) I had no use for. It exits the shed and goes up a hill and into some low hanging branches. It works super well. I don't really use it much but it was a fun experiment.
>>
>>537543525
yeah it's basically boomers bragging about their equipment

Yes
>t. Licensed ham operator
It is a strange hobby. I enjoy the elctronics and theory. I don't get contesting, which is a big part of the hobby. You make as many contacts as possible and log them all, not even talking beyond callsign and location. People do this for field days (the ARRL field day is this coming weekend) and whenever they want to go to a park and try from a mountain or hill (Parks On The Air). It is like a job that you have to pay to do.
That said, if you are interested in emergency radio communications and getting into amateur radio, check out a local field day. Clubs are all over the world. When shtf, hams will still be able to communicate.

Audiophiles are the same way.
>>
>>537543961
this. for a lot of guys its almost exclusively about perfecting their setup through endless tinkering and then seeing where they can reach with it, how fast they can send and copy CW etc. its not about talking to anyone.

go on CB if you want to shitpost vocally. i still hear all kinds of funky shit on there.
>>
>>537543525
the creator of world wide web should have got governments to make people get a license to use the Internet (or www version of it) and this way you wouldn't have groidals with smart phones using flash-mob apps to gather and commit crimes like they did during the George Floyd-covid period.
>>
>>537544349
making a decent receive only antenna is easier than one for transmit. you have to be a lot more precise with your measurements and design otherwise it doesn't work very well and can damage your radio.
>>
>>537547817
gee, sounds kind of like an even better version of a Digital ID.
