DARPA is easily 30 years ahead of the civilian sector. However they cannot enter civilian markets so frontmen running companies are used to introduce some of the tech into the world. You can probably guess who and wich companies just exist to deploy and profilerate old DARPA tech because it’s more useful than to keep them secret for longer.

They then make their own revisions on whatever technology they are investing in to make to work best for them. EVs and China’ battery industry is a good example of this. They know the west is trying to choke them out by controlling oil so they are pouring research and resources into nuclear energy and solar.
