>>537674786biggest advice i can give someone is to find a song you like and learn how to play it. anything that gets you playing on a daily basis is the best way to start. once you're over the initial hump of your fingers not working, that's when i'd start learning chords and scales and a little music theory. but yeah the main thing at first is to find things you like playing. if you just try practicing chords or scales you'll get bored and you wont play. i played every day when i was trying to learn songs i liked, it feels awesome when it starts to click. and you won't notice your but your fingers will get acclimated quickly. the other piece of advice for practicing is that you wont notice progression while practicing. it's only after you put the guitar down and pick it up the next day or the day after that you will see the progression. you brain rewires itself while you sleep or something. it's actually pretty amazing to see yourself suddenly flying down a few notes that you could barely play just a few days ago.
>>537675597i forgot to add, to learn a song you want to play, learn how to read tablature. look up the song in tablature or "tab" as it's called. it's easier to read than notes because the fretboard is labeled with numbers. bottom line is your low E string, top line is your high E. some might say that learning tab gets in the way of ear training, and they are right. don't over-rely on tablature. once you get a little more accustomed to playing, try to learn a song by ear every now and then. it pays off loads down the road.
