Those things are nightmares. We just got one at work and it struggles to cool a tiny office in the north. The key is the heat exchanger. With those units, even if you pipe out the heat like we are, the heat of the pipe continues to raise the temp. Meanwhile a window unit dumps all of the heat outside and pumps pure cold in. I cool an entire house with a window unit.

I used one when the AC failed. I really didn't use it during the day since I'd be at work, but in the evening and night it allowed me to sleep quite comfortably. Otherwise, I wouldn't have slept at all. These are for places with modern horizontal sliding windows. for vertical windows a small window unit would be ideal instead. have a mini split in the room with the worst airflow now and they are superior overall.
>>
>>537686576
I'm getting one soon.
>>
>>537687011
Window Units are way way way better. But good for you taking action.
A whole house system and mini-splits are the best. Window Units are great. And those little hose units suck.

Not only that, but its using the cool air from the room to cool itself, while pushing it out the window, which means it's creating a vacuum that is pulling hot air through any tiny openings, like under your door.

He's right, with a portable AC you're blowing out air that it just cooled, and the hose radiates heat into the room before it reaches the outside. Read a science book moran.

Not anymore! Used to be so, now they suck too.

I have three of these babies intalled. Plus two back-up window units on my balcony just in case.

The old window unit ones were Magical, it would cool down a room like a fridge. Now, the new ones, wont go under 60, and I can't stand temps over 50-53 MAX.

Got two fans and AC around my bed, I sleep in a Virtex. lol

You guys are really missing out if you're not Tier 10 comfy. Ideally you want a house/apt with a HVAC unit, but a slightly older one, not one that has been shitted up by eco regulatory bullshit.
Also, reminds me, depending on your water heater unit, you can turn the heat up past its recommended limit. Not just for hotter water, you'll literally burn your skin off, but for longer showers, sometimes I take a chair in there and think about the jewish problem. Legally the person installing it is not allowed to turn it past the recommended limit (120F?) in the US (I think).
>>
>>537686576
is that one of the portable units with a hose?
hopefully it has an intake and outtake hose and not just one hose.
otherwise youre wasting a lot of energy on not cooling your house.
>>
>>537695539
tankless water heater gives endless hot showers
>>
>>537686576
Of course. Florida has the climate of a tropical rainforest. Air conditioning is necessary for survival. It is basic infrastructure
>>

>>
>>537695638

>>
>>537694661
it's only maybe a couple of days a year when the outside air temperature is too hot that a fan or opening a window doesn't help.
portable machines aren't great, but work more or less okay for single rooms on those days.
>>
>>537695314
My parents bought one of those Mitsubishi central heat/ac dual systems several years back and swear by it. Already saved them a couple grand in costs to boot.

Bro, they'll only last if they're R-22 and you know what you're doing. R-410A is ASSSS and R-32 is somehow worse. Operating pressures way higher, and manufacturers use thinner and thinner copper coils.

Europeans will not understand what it us you are trying to tell them here. Central air and A/C and their associated thermodynamics on home living is not common knowledge anywhere in Europe. You're only gonna get snarky responses because they don't actually get what it is they don't have.
>>
Additionally, you are talking to a group of people who designed windows to open in 17 different ways so they could perfectly control airflow flowing through their house because they can't afford AC.

>moran

>>
If you weren't fat you wouldn't even consider AC.
I was doing HVAC and the guy said to put the basement return airs at the top of the wall to take the heat away. I looked at him like he was a retard. "It never gets hot enough here for that."
I tried living in Vancouver to get away from the cold. It was cold all year round.

>>
>>537698926
>>537699015
It is bullshit and it's nothing to do with AC.

Americans only collect data from corners reports of heatstroke, etc. Whereas in Europe and the UK, it's calculated on seasonal averages. so the figures can be skewed like it was for COVID.

People don't die at home AC or not, they are usually outside exercising or sunbathing , or getting into trouble at quarry lakes or jumping off cliffs into the sea.
Most of the deaths are in holiday areas such as Greece Italy, South of France, etc.

It's just something to keep the Americans thinking they are so great . . .a bit like the recent Ranch dressing scam.
>>
>>537686946
They used to suck, but the youtube "engineers" are lying. I have a 12,000 BTU Dreo (Chinesium) portable AC and it cools down and dehumidifies my room within 2 minutes. It's ridiculously strong. Maybe window units are better, but portable ones are absolutely excellent as well.
>>
>>537694532
>the hose radiates heat into the room
It absolutely does radiate some heat, but it's much less than e.g. having your shades open. It's pretty minimal.

A window unit will always be better, but the indoor units can be decent if you get a dual hose one and put an extension on the outside of the intake so it hangs down a bit and pulls in cool air instead of recirculating air from the exhaust hose. Plus you can wrap the hoses in insulation to maximize the efficiency.

What they lack in efficiency they do make up for in ease of installation, especially if you're on an upper floor.

These creature comforts are the only thing stopping this and the powers that be know it.
>>
>>537700228
Traditional window-mounted air conditioners are extremely rare and heavily restricted in the UK. Because most UK windows open outwards, window units cannot be securely installed without violating building security and ventilation requirements. Instead, the UK relies primarily on portable AC units and permanent split-system air conditioners.
Get fucked Nigel.

I actually kind of agree. I am glad there is some importance on “fresh air” but there should be more. It should be understood that changing the filter regularly is absolutely crucial.
Dirty air will cause brain fog and slow respiratory congestion. All just subtle enough to make dumber, lazier, more fatigued and susceptible to illness without even realizing. And there is no doubt that is happening to people right now who just need to change their fucking filter. Make sure your home, workplace and children’s schools are keeping their systems clean
