World refers to the system humans created, hence there are multiple endings because it's the old world that ends, not humanity itself. Old systems either get destroyed or major new systems established that significantly change our life's and how we navigate through life. Take for example mobile phones and constant connection to the Internet world wide or uncontrolled mass immigration that reduced quality of life significantly. The old worlds have ended and the current one will end too soon - AI will be to blame.
