I prefer window units even though it's noisier than a split type. I have a split type and it's annoying that no matter how much I maintain the mesh filter eventually the inside components like the blower and condenser coils will get caked up with dust and I have to move a bunch of furniture around so the technician could reach and clean it, it makes a mess too since the equipment would dust up the room. And I'm too stupid to clean it myself with all the screws and detachable components and all plus the electronics I need to watch out for to not get water.I think older units in general like old window types were way more durable especially the freon used is indeed true, it was better and the units themselves were made of mostly metal thus it doesn't build as much electrostatic charge, because plastic builds electrostatic and attracts dust.My old window type wasn't like this, just clean the filter regularly and it wasn't a problem, no technicians needed. Plus window type only have one direction of airflow compared to splits, so microscopic dust doesn't build up as much and would just blow away outside one way.
