oil stock is at all time lows, fertilizer plants blown up world wide and the meat industry has been monopolized causing prices to skyrocket. are you guys doing anything to keep from starving? im making blackberry jam today out of the wild blackberries i picked. (picrel) going to make some wine with the next batch i picked.

>oil stock is at all time lows
that means it's gonna go up, dummy.
>>
>>537731119
boiling them down to separate the juice from the seeds.
>>
>>537731250
yes the price is going to go up putting strain on farmers. trump famine is guaranteed
>>
>>537731119
>is /pol/ preparing for the trump famine?
NO
>>
>>537731301
I was not aware that jams are made by boiling fruit. Boiling destroys nutrients so I'm gonna stop buying jam from now on.
>>
>>537731367

im straining the seeds out right now. seedless blackberry jam is expensive because its delicious breakroom, you can even ask your shift manager
>>
>>537733296
What "shift manager"? I haven't worked at walmart since October.
>>
>>537733296
How many cups of blackberries do you need for 1 cup of seedless jam?

Post full recipe. I made seedy jam last week and it was good
>>
>>537734306
i didnt measure the raw berries but it was about 1/2 of a 3 gallon pot worth. i will measure juice once im done straining the juice. ive threw out almost a quart of seeds.

>preparing for the trump famine?
Good luck surviving off of 3 jars of blackberry jam and 2 bottles of wine. Clearly you arent preparing for a famine if you are removing all of the protein content (the seeds) from the jam you fucking mongoloid.
>>
>>537734887
i still have jam from last year, most of these are for gifts so i want it to be extra good.
>10 cups of juice
>7 cups of sugar
bringing it to a boil

I live in Arkansas, there's foragable food available basically the entirety of the year. I don't have to prep for anything.
>>
>>537739304
what about winter? deer or what?
>>
I live in Wisconsin. There will never not be food here. I look forward to the riots in the cities which I am far away from.
>>
>>537731119
I have a large reserve of body fat to live off of, possibly for up to a year. Clean drinking water will be a much more important commodity when SHTF.
>>
>>537739378
The bear population has just fucking exploded and the only time they're not active are stretches at the very end of winter, so I guess I would probably start with that if I had to on meat,
Persimmons the sugar content is so high the ones that get missed on the tree will be good to the next spring.
Always roots you could dig up.
>>
>>537739756
did you just move to arkansas? are you sure your not seeing giant raccoons? persimmons are good, going to make a thread when i make persimmon jam. deer meat is delicious and there are way way way way more deer in arkansas than bears.
>>
>>537740028
You call that a deer? I've taken dumps bigger than that.

Get yourself a foley mill. Saves this step
>>
>>537734306
I always go with the recipe posted by Ball or whatever's in the pectin packet
>>
>>537740651
nope, im gonna do it like my ancestors. 6 pints of extremely high quality wild blackberry jam successfully preserved.
>>
>>537740767
blackberries do not need pectin, it has it naturally
>>
>>537738886
>>537739074

usually you can skip this step.
when the jam is propper boiled and the containers clean! which should be mandatory anyway...
>>
>>537741667
i know, but it will sit on the shelf for a yearbor more
>>
>>537741865
fair enough
may jam like i make, can last that easy.
anyway, good to show people how to make jam and other food last a long time!
>never tried meat in jars or salamis.
>>
>>537742302
meat is one of the easiest. just pack meat in the jar and pressure can. it turns tough cuts of meat very tender and you can just open a jar and eat it. its a great way to preserve meat
>>
>>537742548
ok i gonna try with the next "meat on sale"
>>
>>537731119

I plan to turn cannibal.
>>
>>537731119
Holy fuck, mans got himself a few hours worth of calories.
>>
>>537743359
>>537742982
i have taken the seeds and pulp left over and added water to it. once it is boiling im gonna add a few cups of sugar and make some wine.
>>
>>537744042
i have lots and lots of calories but want somethings tasty to put on them
>>
>>537740850
You don't need to add it but I'd argue that without pectin you're making "preserves" and not "jam"

that's fine as a women's hobby and a good way for a girl to spend her time
but you're not saving money, honey
>>
>>537731119
Bro we American out here we have enough fat stores to survive 5 years without eating
>>
>>537745059
unironically
give me water and maybe some lemon juice to prevent scurvy and I could go 40 days without food like Jesus Christ
>>
>>537744045

cool, a red wine yeast strain.
here kinda expensive!
>>
>>537745049
a pint of blackberry jam is $6 for the goyslop brand. this is blackberries, cane sugar and lemon juice. i would say these 6 pints are worth $50
>>
>>537746222
>worth
it's all relative
you're factoring in quality and your pride
but not your time and your money's worth as far as prepper supplies are concrned
>>
>>537746410
i spend my time growing and gathering food. i am done paying taxes to feed the beast trying to destroy me. so i came out ahead

You can make a cheesecake sandwich. Put jam on a slice, and cream cheese on the other.
>>
>>537750490
that actually sounds delicious, i will 100% try that
