Their ancestors came over during the Ming and Qing Dynasty.Qing Dynasty lost Taiwan to Japan in 1895. It was part of Japan until the end of WW2. Everyone there had to either move to China or convert from Chinese to Japanese. After WW2 in 1945 it was occupied by the Chinese military and then the Chinese government lost the Civil War and CKS and some of his supporters fled there and ruled the island for 40 years.
