Check this out OP, why would this plane waste so much fuel by flying in a huge arc instead of going the shortest distance which is a straight line? It probably doubled the distance it needs to fly by following such a curved flight path. I'll tell you why - it's actually flying in a straight line and its the map that is artificially curved.
