It's just that at that age their intellect is fascinated by such material, and as they mature their attention moves on to more mature things.It's mostly about what you appreciate in hip hop. Fundamentally it's rhyming over beats. It's main value is in the music, specifically rhythm combined with meaning. It's an artform that has both objective qualities like rhyme schemes and subjective qualities like mood (as does all music). If it's your source of learning, clearly you can't be very knowledgeable. If it's your source for sorting out the important things in life, you're probably doing it wrong. It's not supposed to educate erudite people, but it can educate ignorant people. Belly-aching about it in a generic way means you lack the basic ability to evaluate it and discern it in a more detailed sense, which means you're genuinely unintelligent.
