A substantial amount of the movie is a B plot in which a character is trying to decide whether God is real based on the existence of aliens, and if that information should be released to the public, which reaches nothing resembling a satisfying conclusion. Some symbolism with the stigmata specifically relating to that throughline. Again: No conclusion. No satisfying "tying of the knot" regarding it.Backrooms clearly made the viewer aware of what the subtext and themes of the movie were. Anyone who isn't a fucking idiot could walk out, intuit what the film was doing, and think about it. Disclosure Day middled between a generic Hollywood film and anything further than that felt thrown in. There are a substantial number of symbols or info regarding character development that feel unresolved, or underutilized. The way the aliens disguise themselves and the way a spacecraft during an abduction was disguised as a "Hansel and Gretel" house had absolutely zero resolution, and the latter seemed unnecessary.There are plenty of films that end with completely ambiguous endings--this one did too. Leave the World Behind is one that comes to mind, in the same vein of movies about political/global world-changing events. Leave the World Behind was a much better movie.
