I'm honestly curious. As a millennial boomer who graduated high school in 2005, I've noticed Gen Z has a very queen interest in this era, and the vibes of it. The music, the fashion, the movies, the whole aestheticIt makes me wonder, why? why is this the case? my own theory is that there is actually a racial element too it. This timeframe (the late 90s, to early 2010s) was really the last time America felt like a "White" society. America was just under 70% European-American in 2001 (compared with like, less than 56% today) that's not to say that there wasn't tons of nigger rap, and degeneracy during this time (there was) but, still Popular Culture reflected a more "White" mood. It was the last time when Rock music was in the mainstream zeitgeist, skater culture was huge. You could still go to the mall without seeing tons jets or somalis.

The current world is a fucking dystopian hellscape, completely anti-human, designed to crush your spirit. Is it a wonder then that younger people want to escape to better times, especially if they never even got to experience them? Of course there's also the demographic issue, it's insane how much has changed in such a short time. Looking at my old photos from pre- and elementary school, literally every kid was white as snow with blonde or light brown hair, something that is literally unthinkable now in western Germany even in small towns and villages.
