I live in a rented flat, so can only have a portable unit (one of the ones with an extractor hose you put out the window), but I've been nice and comfortable for the last few days, thanks to it. Sure, it cost about £300, but it'll last for years and years. I think people just decide they don't want to shell out for a/c because we traditionally only get a few hot days a year, and it doesn't seem worth it. That mentality will probably change if we start getting a far more heatwaves.

Bongland is built for cold and damp, and people figure they'll just sit out the couple of days of heat, but that's getting to be impracticable.I grew up in rural Illinois largely without A/C, and the summers were brutal. The corn holds on to the humidity and turns the hot air into a fucking swamp and your sweat doesn't do anything, and it makes you cranky and unable to focus. The solution is to at least have one room with an A/C that you can escape to when it gets to be too much. Bongs need to learn from this experience and splash out on a portable A/C over the winter when there's not surge pricing on them, and figure out how to seal the hose into their goofy polytesseract 9D window opening. Let's see if they do that.

I would be inclined to lift off the whole fucking window off its hinges creating a flat surface to lay a panel of something on, lexan or plywood or whatever, screw that down to the window frame or with some spacers to the walls past the edge of the window frame and some weather stripping foam running along the mating surface, and put a bulkhead penetrating vent in the panel that the A/C hose(s) can attach to. You can do the same kind of thing with the center pivot roof windows but rather than removing them you open them until they're just flush with the edge of the window frame, then lay your panel up against the opening. They make screen kits for those windows that you can use for a frame to make the panel easy to install and remove.Trying to seal a tippy out window in situ with garbage bags is a fool's errand. The market is ripe for solutions.
