Global chip manufacturing capabilities will increase tenfold in the next years. This means the AI data centers will get the demand met and after that the the supply of chips will be huge which will then lead to decrease in prices. R-right?

I doubt that will work. Musk already has too much data center capacity and is therefore renting it out. Eventually, they'll run out of investor money to buy more hardware. And hardware manufacturers will ramp up production anyway. In a few years, hardware will be cheaper than ever before.

The question is whether chip manufacturers will take the risk. AI demand is difficult to predict and highly speculative.

This is by design.
Memory has always been a cartel monopoly, and they will not up production enough to devalue their profits ever again. They've been waiting for an opportunity like this for decades.
If AI companies can lock out consumers from hardware, then they need them for services.
Only way to win is a total rejection of these companies and all companies using their services.

I look at it this way.
Can frontier AI models be profitable??? I don't think so. They're too large, and too inefficient with current hardware/software to run at scale like they want. Therefor they have to charge high rates per use. This high rate per use model is not really worth it to most people, especially since it's only really useful for office work automation, and coding assistance. Therefor what we see are most companies building self-hosted systems (largely off open source Chinese models).
The investment will start to dry up, panic will set in, they'll try to pivot to lower end models and it will work sort of, but ultimately some of them will go under, and others will be shells of their former selves.

tldr. Altman isn't going to buy 40% of the RAM supply like he promised, and if he does he'll have to eventually sell it because what they do isn't profitable in any imagination.

What do you mean take the risk? You got AI companies building chip factories now.

SpaceX and Tesla will build Terafab a chip factory.
Google and Amazon working on their own chip factories. (they are copying Elon btw)
OpenAI making custom chip but don't know if they will create chip factories?

Then are are Chinese chip companies, probably some new ones in Russia as well due to sanctions and shit, probably some EU start ups too because they don't want to be reliant on others.

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/06/24/tech/openai-broadcom-jalapeno-ai-chip

>OpenAI and Broadcom announced plans to develop custom chips to power 10 gigawatts worth of computing last year, but only unveiled the first chip from that partnership on Wednesday.

>Tech giants like Google and Amazon have increasingly shifted toward developing their own AI chips. Custom chips allow companies to better tailor processing performance for their own models and reduce reliance on existing chip companies like Nvidia. OpenAI said Jalapeño is designed specifically for modern large language models instead of being a “general-purpose” chip.

>“Nobody wants to be beholden to Nvidia,” Ben Barringer, global head of technology research at investment firm Quilter Cheviot, told CNN last November when asked about Google potentially challenging Nvidia in AI chips. “They are trying to diversify their chip footprint.”

>>537835827
At some point they can afford to both make chip for them self and sell to the gamers because the tech has advanced and become more available.

>>537836040
5 years is nothing. Not even Skyrim 2 will be done in that time. But the 5 years after that will be a new golden age for video games
>>
>>537835481
>>537835611
Here's an anecdote.
According to economists like Yanis Varoufakis, one of the reasons why the German car industry is in the shitter is because the auto companies saw that most consumers were poor and that the profits to be made were meager, so instead of pumping money on R&D and innovation like EVs they spent all that money on stock buybacks in order to inflate the monetary value of their company for their shareholders.
These auto companies made the conscious decision that the very people buying their cars were no longer their primary market nor priority, and essentially dove headfirst into financialization (making money via financial transactions and investment vehicles) rather than a tangible product.

The same thing seems to be happening to western tech.
All these companies have looked at the consumer market and deemed them to be insignificant compared to the profits there are to be made in selling hardware to government-affiliated AI companies and the military industrial complex, using tax dollars.

So there's no guarantee supply & demand will even matter, because they've swapped out demand of the markets with sweet taxpayer money straight from the government. And there's a high degree of financialization going on because even though these chipmakers, RAM, storage and GPU companies like Nvidia do provide physical hardware with real measurable performances, at the base level the task both them and the AI companies do are relatively simple (backpropagation and gradient checkpointing = LLM) and not inherently worth a whole lot since it's already easily replicable by small independent Chinese companies with a fraction of the hardware, meaning that the only really valuable thing about these companies are their stock valuation, their position as a government contractor, and circular financing (Nvidia pumping billions of dollars into OpenAI who then directly spends those billions on Nvidia hardware making it look like there's a lot of activity).

lol none of these factories are in the process of being built or will be built

OpenAI is losing like 20 billion this year. For any of their shit to make sense they need to be in the black by like 200 billion a year for any of the maths to work.

All the other AI companies are the same bleeding money

All the shovel sellers are basing their future on an ecosystem that burns money.

companies like microsoft make huge profits of companies like open though azure.

When the crash happens this shit is gonna ripple through all of tech and shit like ram and ssds will be sold for pennies on the dollar.
>>
>>537838833
Both parts already happened.
RAM and GPU companies don't care about consumer end anymore (Valve recently said that trying to bargain with RAM companies would just get them ignored in future transactions).
>>
>>537839619
Thing is if there's suddenly a large increase in ram for example then data centres will still just buy it all. I mean all they have to do is undercut by 10% which is still absolutely shit price. They're not going to undercut by 50%.
>>
>>537839990
Not Chinese RAM.
The whole circular financing grift only works when the money stays within the US system.
