so much for "protect the environment" huh.
Idealism vs human nature strikes again.
>>
>>537835232
"protect the environment" is just cope
the fact that there are people dying in hospitals because there's no central air is simply the proof that we're a third world nation now
>>
>>537835195
I'm going to get one of these to experiment with it on my boat, it gets very hot in the cabin sometimes. They're dirt cheap here, from Chyna.

>>
>>537835337
yeah it never had anything to do with the environment. people here are just cheap. bus drivers get told to drive with ac turned off so the company can save money on gas etc. in germany they are breaking ac in buses on purpose so that the drivers cant use it
>>
>>537835714
regular multisplit ACs are still in stock but since you need to drill in pipes and get a certified technician to do it (you can't diy shit with cooling fluid), rentoids are fucked. this is the only model that provides actual AC that a rentoid can use
>>
>>537835195
that's... just as stupid as it sounds
in 3 days no one will care and regular shops stock them again

>>537835232
>protect the environment
but I do?
currently doing almost my full 20kWp of rooftop Solar
about ~5kW of that directly go into the AC to cool down my house
some if it fills my 30kWh battery in the basement for the night (AC takes a lot less during the night)

it's environmentally friendly with zero (local) emissions
and I don't rely on centralized, government controlled (((utilities)))

but you should "buy" your electricity goy
>>
we need the US to step in and start an 'AC for EU' program. if you put a little bit of effort in it you can supply us with millions of ACs and save previous lives
>>
>>537835865
Why in hell no one ever thought of these mini splits before is the big question.
>>
>>537835761
>they are breaking ac in buses on purpose
it’s some demonic relic in their religion, it must be desecrated
>>
>>537835694
yeh the time to get these are when no one wants them - the irony is they can be good in winter as well to dehumidify as well if needed. But yes it is typical that people know that there were going to be a few days or weeks of hot weather and do nothing and then cry when the units are sold out. what amazes me is the very same people crying in the UK will pay thousands go on holiday to a place with the same temps - their cope will be they can sit around a pool and of course they say the hotel will have AC anyway - lolz.
>>
>>537835195
in america we get our ac's for free. i have like 8 of them
>>
>>537836002
and there's only one model big enough. this one might be too big for your boat, but there are other cheap tiny splits made just for that that you can hang out the window. this one's outside unit is 10kg
>>537836047
what I don't get with Americans is the central air in regular sized houses. this shit is for stores and warehouses
>>
>>537835865
I would imagine that is the real thing, people who do rent and can't get anything installed. But it's stupid anyway, just a few more weeks of potential hot weather and then it's autumn and the units will be available again. People who own houses would just have AC installed and if they still are paying a mortgage probably re-mortgage for the £10k or so if they have AC throughout the house.
>>
>>537835337

>>
>>537835976
What about the junkyard cars. Nobody even thinks about the a/c systems in those. Just supply a little power and yall can live in our old SUV’s.
>>
I could see people taking the AC units out of cars and running them off electric motors. wonder how viable that would be if the unit can be taken out without the gas draining? Clearly not large enough for a house, but probably good enough for a small room like a bedroom at least.
>>
>>537835976
no, our politicians are currently on a "always do the opposite of what Americans say" trip. I bet if Trump urged Europeans to save energy and endure the heat, we'd have mandatory AC in no time
>>
>>537836161
It gets way hotter here frenchie and central air units are the size of window ones, they're just more efficient. Actually, why am I even explaining this to you? The water in your capital is such toxic sludge they had to cancel an olympic event, you know nothing of infrastructure or utilities

so it's sold out everywhere, they could sell it much higher but they are selling it cheaper?
rrp for this model is £999 here
>>
>>537835195
Midea is top-of-the-line. It's a portable split system. The price was always over €700, especially in summer.
>>
>>537835195
I mean, 999€ is the normal retail price, what are they even earning here lmao
So much for scalping
>>
>>537836002
It existed in the 80's, and it exists for camping car. Why the fuck the market shifted to inefficient non-split units should raise the question. But we all know the free market doesn't work the way it should.
>>
>>537836883
Yes, that's a really good question why midea are the only ones building mobile split systems with 7000 BTU. Well, at least there's been a chinese competitor for a few months now, but it also costs €700, unless you want to buy 500 piece via alibaba.

The good thing about this heatwave and zero water is how it UTTERLY KILLED all mosquitoes, and pretty much every insect.
Windows have been full open every nights last week, and not a single thing went in. Not even small flies, no mosquitoes, and certainly no fucking spiders. Usually shit comes in in like the first 5 minutes.
DEATH TO SPIDERS AND MOSQUITOES
>>
>>537837162

Oh don't worry, I have mosquito nets that work perfectly, but even with all the holes, it reduce the airflow too much when in such heatwaves I need to get as much fresh air in as possible in a limited time before the sun is up again.

>>537837267
I know, and I have no issue with other insects. I don't mind flies, I don't mind bees, I don't even mind wasps.
I just don't want fucking PARASITES like mosquitoes. Even moreso for species that are not native to here, they can fucking DIE in a fire. And sorry for the spiderbros, but that one won't fly either. It it has more than 4 legs, it stays outside or it dies when it enters my home. Simple rule they have to respect.
>>
>>537837406
Let a spider squat your window and you won't have mosquitoes. What a pussy

I paid 580CAD for a 10000BTU Ashrae portable AC. I have full acceptance that it will die in less than 3 summers, if not sooner if its a lemon.

Europoors are undoubtably paying exorbitant fees on these chinese shit units (Midea "premium?" Maybe you need fluoride in your water.) All popular brands are made by the same 1 or 2 manufacturers with a different brand name stuck on.

Enjoy paying 1500CAD to a nafri scalper to get a 7000BTU AC that breaks after 200 hours of operation. Its common knowledge that the french are the ultimate nigger cattle, but this takes the cake.
>>
>>537835195
I got mine from a Chinese student for 40€, why are you going for shit that's 1k during the heatwave vieu?
Just use the students moving out for summer a discount
>>
>>537837724
Anon is retarded and going for """high end""" nigger tech
A lot of the time if you get your shit around may you can find a brand new unit for less than a 100 from kids that never turned it on and just want to give it away
>>
>>537837724
The Midea thing all started because Lidl were selling them at a discounted fee - say 150 euros cheaper than others were selling them for. That unit is the 8kbtu's version as well, not the 12kbtu version and it does not have the heat function. But it really is for small rooms or small apartment, the 12kbtu model is better anyway
>>
ezpz and dirt cheap diy "AC" guide:

-get a big bucket (like eg from a mop) or even better, something insulated like a camping cooler
-get a 6 pack of big water bottles, 1.5L. empty them a little, to around 3/4 full, and yeet them in your freezer to turn into ice
-get a cheap aquarium pump (20-30 euros)
-get a cheap pc AIO cpu cooler, ideally 3 fan model, but 2 is fine too. (<= 50 euros)
-alternatively, you can get a heat exchanger from a car's AC system, but you'd need to go to a junkyard to get one cheap, and you'd still need to add pc fans to it (zip ties)
-cut the cpu block from the cpu AIO, you wont need it. you'll also need to drain the coolant from the cpu aio, dont worry, its not toxic or nothing, usually just water and glycerol
-get some hoses and adapters to connect the pump to the radiator. you only need to ensure the pump's output is running through the rad, the return from the rad can just be a loose hose inside the bucket
-get a 12v power supply for the fans (the pump should have its own)

so, im sure you can see where this is going, but just to be clear, the idea is very simple.
the pump goes in the bucket, along with half your frozen water bottles and some tap water.
the water should stay at 0c while the bottles are still frozen, afterwards swap with fresh frozen ones from freezer and put the unfrozen ones back in the freezer to re-freeze
pump should be connected to the pc aio radiator and pumping 0c water through it
the fans push air through the radiator, cooling it massively
obv, point the cold air stream towards you
note that the radiator and the bucket will be well under the dew point, so condensation will form. use towels to avoid making a mess

total cost should be under 100 euros

hardest parts are figuring out the connection from the pump to the rad and powering the fans from an external power supply, but yea, not exactly rocket science neither. ask chatgpt if you really struggle.

it will actually *lower* the humidity in the room, especially if you take the extra step of adding a cap to the bucket (with holes for the rad hoses, ofc)

How much did "your" electricity cost to install?
I'm sure the battery's a couple thousand euros, maybe the panels a couple thousand euros too...
When is it all paid off? Nevermind the environment, fuck that. How long before it's repaid you more than being hooked to the grid would cost?

>How much did "your" electricity cost to install?
>I'm sure the battery's a couple thousand euros, maybe the panels a couple thousand euros too...
things cost money
and now?

>When is it all paid off?
you likely mean amortized
because I paid it in full directly, no loans

>How long before it's repaid you more than being hooked to the grid would cost?
if you install the Solar Panels yourself
takes about 4-6years
German electricity is just as expensive as Dutch one
just running the AC on a hot day like today can be >25€/day
together with standard household stuff, warm water and charging the car, we easily save 2000€+ per year

battery and solar should both be good for >25y though
likely more if you accept minor degradation
so for a looong time after it paid for itself
