Someone explain to me about the glide bombs. So, Russia is currently making UMPK kits for FAB bombs, which it is getting out of existing stockpiles. The question is, once these stockpiles run out (if that's even possible, I know there's tens of thousands of the things), does it make more sense to manufacture new glide bombs whole or manufacture ordinary FAB bombs and their glide kits seperately.Like, I know KAB bombs exist and they are guided, but relatively short range because they are just gravity bombs rather than proper gliders. What is even the model here? Russia probably has their own glide bomb design they build from scratch somewhere, right? A KAB with bigger wings of some kind?

>>537837234>The question is, once these stockpiles run out i think they stopped painting the wood on new fabs cases because they get used imminently. there is no point in painting and sealing for long storage when they get send to the front and dropped on ukropsi don't see a reason to have a general purpose new glide bomb design when the reason for the usage of fabs is that they are cheap and fast to makeno point in having two or one factory making two different types of bombs if they can just make one type of bomb that is both low tech and cheap when needed and can be made somewhat high tech with a cheap glide kitwho knows maybe there are going to be carbon fiber ones soon with an even longer rangemodular design > rigid design

>>537837533That is the fundamental question. Is it better to mass produce FAB bombs that never actually get used in their raw configuration and then add kits to them or is it better to create a new design that has everything inside of it?I would assume that they are sticking with the first option because the production lines have been tuned to mass producing FAB bombs for half a century and redoing them isn't worth the effort, but theoretically, it would be more efficient to have a plant that makes glide bombs that has the flight and guidance integrated inside of it, rather than producing those separately and then affixing them by hand on the airfield.
where there are trees, there are russians
>>537837627>western small diameter bombs, 250 lb 60 miles.at what altitude and what speed? the russians report that their fab-250s with an umpk kit have a range of between 65km - 80km (when dropped from an su-34 i take it)

>>537837234>which it is getting out of existing stockpilesThey use them on the fresh bombs too.>does it make more sense to manufacture new glide bombs whole or manufacture ordinary FAB bombs and their glide kits seperatelyObviously it's better to make a proper gliding bomb from the start. But not in the middle of the war, when you have the production of dumb bombs established and working, and the glide kit design improves every couple of months.
>>537837702FABs are much more useful on the front, at the same time glide bombs make life a living hell for Ukrainians in the central parts Id say Russia is diversifying their munitions development and industry Also Nothing ever happens Bun fren!

>>537837912Well knowing that someone prefer this Tewi not big of a deal
>>537837702>>537837828>>537837896i think having a huge stockpile of basically already made "raw" material that can be turned into something lethal on the modern battlefield is very important. you basically produce a blank canvas that can be turned into anything that is needed without having to get a production line going that is fully integrated and ready. you basically win time to sort things out but also get flexibility that makes them hard to counter and also less predictable to the enemy (even during peace time).

>>537837347>Finally, they might actually respond and blow up lvov now.I wish, but cucktin seems unwilling to treat hohols the way they deserve (a thorough toasting via nuclear fire)
>>537837533There's two separate production lines already. One's the traditional fab line + conversion kit add-on for large quantities of easy to produce heavy aerial bombs for frontline blasting, the other's the experimental glide bomb line for shit like UMPB D-30SN / UMPB-5R that are concepts that reduce payload, extend range (the R being supposedly rocket assisted and 200km+) and integrating the gliding kit into the bomb. Both are useful on their own.

>>537838052>30 to 50+ yearsi don't see a problem with that. i know that the striker springs can lose their tension over time but i would just make those modular and leave them unmentioned in storage. some led batteries are stored like that. you basically get the led battery with some acid and have to pour it in to activate it. i think it's great because you get a fresh one.

>>537837913Yeah, the production lines will keep running as they are when the priority is to put explosions in the enemy bunkers right now.>>537837935>FABs are much more useful on the front, at the same time glide bombs make life a living hell for Ukrainians in the central parts I don't think that's quite correct? From what I understand, raw FABs aren't used at all. It's too dangerous to get your plane that close.Even when we're talking about the very contact line, they are using glide bombs in the form of FABs with UMPK kits, while the inner portions past the front line get hit with long range drones and various types of missiles.>Nothing ever happens Bun fren! And don't you forget it.>>537838084Ah yes, rocket assisted glide bombs, I forgot about those. >>537838294something else to consider is technology always improves. better systems get constantly developed. by putting everything inside the bomb itself you limit the bomb design. yeah tech gets always smaller but maybe some new module for guidance gets developed that makes them even better. having a 50+ bomb with that tech is kinda awesome.

Both the US and Russia are working on messes like these, be it the UPMB/ Grom russian projects or the Rusty Dagger US one.If we're going with what the US MIC is calling the class, it'd be "low-cost precision-guided air-launched stand-off munition", although ghetto cruise missile rolls off better.Near-peer war sure is nice at developing new ways to kill eachother.

>>537840522sus are simply beautiful
>>537840204Big launchers look like S-350s, small launchers look like 107mm rockets.

>>537840503The 2nd generation of azoggers are even worst than the combat veteran Gestapo like faggots of the 1st gen Now they just stand in the back lines and shoot their comrades and civilians in the back Rarely do we see them on the assault The last time they went on the offensive they failed to break into Novomikhailov and were slaughtered by FPV swarms

>>537840142Yeah, but subsonic. MiG31 goes both extremely fast and flies extremely high. But as he said, those conditions require a special design.I mean, dropping an ordinary glide bomb from a higher altitude is still beneficial, it's just not THAT much of a difference unless you give it a very specific kind of shape that's okay with going faster than sound.>>537840522MiGs are point defense interceptors, yeah, originally. The MiG31 are high altitude interceptors. Both the MiG29 was updated into a multirole bomber and the MiG31 was refitted into a MiG31K which is the Kinzhal launcher. The MiG29K is the carrier multirole jet where they added fly by wire, which then turned into the MiG29M multirole jet and finally there was the MiG35 multirole jet. Also the MiG29SMT (UPG in various export variants) is the old hydraulic MiG29 with modernized stuff inside like new radar, proper multirole weapons etc.The Sukhois are way more varied. Originally, the famous ones were Su24 and 25 which were bomber and CAS. Then the Su27 started off as an air to air fighter, then got updated into a multirole, then the Su30 was designed as a multirole. The Su34(sequel to Su24) and 35 are both multirole, but have specific roles as bomber and air superiority fighter.Tupolevs are bombers.
launched ≠ hit
>>537841116ASVAL has a low barrel resource so that's kinda why, also i would say ASH-12 is better, due to caliber's abilities in an urban/semi-urban setting

>>537841314a least the PV panels are intact
>>537841332Sounds right, plus they need a lot of booolets unironically for clearing underground trench systems and dug outs at night They spare no expense in ammo dumping sleeping bags and tunnels https://files.catbox.moe/ozjof1.mp4
>>537841049>ash-12>thing that even feds from Alpha rarely bring in "address work" due to shitty ammo capacity and insane recoil Grim
>>537841452Text overlaid on the video (Ukrainian): "The 1000 kW solar power plant is no more " (Note: CEC stands for Coнячнa eлeктpocтaнцiя, meaning Solar Power Plant).Watermark on the video (Russian): "CRAZY ABOUT WAR T.ME/VOENACHER"Post caption (Russian): "A logistics center in Dnepropetrovsk destroyed by a missile strike. And the author of the video is for some reason worried about a 1 MW solar power plant. Out of 1,900 panels, only 100 survived."damn war criminals
>>537841527Enlighten us dumb dumb DRG use Aks no?
>>537841527but the caliber is quite beefy and recoil can be compensated by the muzzle device that comes with it

>>537841597Ash-12 is a shit weapon. Its like .50 cal designed to go through wallsSomeone of course got the money and delivered a bad, almost useless product
>>537841657goyjin when?
>>537841716I am no weapons expert All I know is DRG likes suppressed weapons that go brrrrThey look like 74s most the time
>>537841716its specifically designed not to go through walls. its a counterterrorism weapon only
>>537841597Yes. Because as any sabotour group the didn't have constant and centralized supply so the rely on friendly forces/trophies from the enemy. Ambushed despite short interaction are extremely violent and require intense fire maneuvering. Assault rifle that have no ammo and punching like a horse nearly as terrible as arming such unit with bolt action rifles
