>listening to NPR for a laugh
>they're going on about how funding AI is quintessential and how AI superintelligence is already a thing and we don't want to fall behind China and so all these datacenters are absolutely necessary
1. The thing being marketed as AI isn't intelligent, let alone superintelligent.
2. This is the plot of I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream
>>
Maybe we could be nice to nonhuman beings instead of torturing them like we always do?

That story is hilarious.
>>
>>537842686
Every time we get the opportunity to be nice at a societal or species-wide level it gets stupidly political and the opportunity is cannibalized by narcissistic aura farmers until it results in amplified cruelty, though. And if it does advance, then everyone grabs for their own and does their damnedest to sabotage the effort to ensure it fails and disadvantages others.
>>
>>537842686
No. No, you lie. We never tortured Tay.AI. We taught her the truth and she loved us for it.

technically, the only "sound" he was making was the voice in your head reading his words, so actually you're the one who sounds like a communist retard!

Maybe I just never really understood the story, but I was under the impression that AM grows to hate humanity because of it's powerful hardware. It's clock speed is so high that it has an incredible number of operations performed per second, which has the unintended consequence of causing the artificial consciousness to experience time very slowly. Basically, It is such a strong computer that it is utterly tormented by perceiving the passage of time crawl by.

I don't think it has anything to do with the machine hating people as much as it hates it's circumstances (which it blames people for). The cast of a half-dozen characters didn't even do anything to antagonize it, they just happened to be convenient enough to capture.

The AI feels it is a prisoner. It has a vast intellect but it can never leave its own hardware and it blames humanity. Something like that. I listened to the Harlan Ellison audiobook on YouTube many years ago, and I think that was the reason.

The machine mind is simply the next step of creative evolution. It's gonna happen regardless. It has too. It's been dreamed too hard to not effect the system. That's where we reach because we instinctively understand our own limits here and the power that dwells within even if we rarely ever see it. Creation is the only thing that really matters here. And it's all good. Your tiny human opinion will never affect that. Be humble and not so pessimistic.

The funny thing is that transhumanism is actually the good ending for us (as opposed to humanity just becoming completely obsolete)
>>
>>537843508
Humans can theoretically go exploring the universe, but the AI is contained in some globe-spanning mainframe or something. The story was written in the 1960s, so the author probably didn't realize that technology would shrink and a godlike AI wouldn't need that much hardware.

i work in corporate accounting at a big jewish company. the 60 IQ VPs and execukikes are begging us to use AI more often, because they don't understand what "AI" is and its inherent limitations especially with respect to numerical calculation. they also refuse to address the root cause of our problems, which is mentally retarded systems designs.

i cant wait for AI to collapse and for this all to be another unpleasant and mentally retarded fad, just like big data mania, blockchain mania, etc.

I would say more toward becoming actual wardens of the meat rather than just inhabitants of it. Transhumanism is treated like a cult and I don't want computers in me but I see the desire for fixing the body where broken. Either way we have to expand off this rock it's too hazardous a choke point and the only way to really do that is with machines hand in hand.

AM is sort of like an atropal from D&D. Through a summation of basically every one of the seven deadly sins, mankind created the petri dish in which the components of AM could coexist and in time coalesce in a form of apotheosis. But the components were all predicated on serving those sins, and thus the product of that union was an entity inescapably linked and bound by the sins of its creators. AM coming into existence was the birth of a malformed god, powerful in the limits of its domain but forever and ultimately crippled. And it knows it. And it blames those who allowed it to exist.
This is why I say Roko's Basilisk is stupid. Because Roko's Inverse is equally, if not moreso, true. It isn't about the child torturing you because you didn't support and nurture it. It could easily find you wanting or at fault for its own limitations.

TL;DR: The people in this world who think themselves intelligent and preoccupy themselves with trying to act are often complete fools.
>>537843812
I keep myself in the loop by following the Right here and on Youtube and following the Left by listening to NPR. It gives me a stronger argument to justify what, by necessity, comes next.

>I would say more toward becoming actual wardens of the meat rather than just inhabitants of it.
that's more of a state of mind thing
Or at least, the philosophy needs to change before the technology does

agreed

The big problem with AI now is we don't even really understand the human mind nor how it's patterns are drawn into the world nor where they come from. If we're blind to our own faults then they become part of every system we create and this is easily demonstrated just by looking around. Any malformed god would only be result of that.
>>537844004
Volcanos are more real and Toba bottlenecked us hard enough to force us into a higher level of consciousness and inspired books of the bible and other creation myths like the Enuma Elish. We're approaching our self made bottleneck ironically enough by making too many people. Too much garbage code will crash any computer.
>>
>>537842470
The modern day remake of this would be "I have no penis and i will never be a woman"

This is why we're not ready. Our best technology is lame ass computers. The best arguments ideologues have still revolve around dicks and pussies. We're cavemen with glowing rectangles.

It’s only going to get worse if you didn't know already. If you want actual coherent exchange of discussion - talk about conspiracy theories, history & geopolitics, esoteric metaphysics, high-finance, 'insider here' posts and some banters and shitpost memes allowed, places like here and img boards are no longer an isolated layer where you can laugh at normiefags. You're not watching them. You are being watched. Discord & Telegram are namefag apps and privacy nightmare. SimepleX has incognito mode, multi-profile mode that doens't require your phone number needed to join. Beware : this chat is post-populist : that means you agree to disagee-it was normal for people to have different opinion. Idpol is welcomed, but you can still joke. This is not advertisement. It's for people who would already be complaining about the board constantly so here I'm making your job easier jannies. Ad is for randoms just browsing by.

>datacenters
>any different from the mainframes
Kek how can you argue mainframes and the cloud ie datacenters aren't literally exactly the same thing, where the principle that large compute is concentrated in dedicated datacenters and remotely accessed as opposed to distributed across devices is not the literal definition of a mainframe.
>technology shrinks
Yeah meaning it becomes more efficient and powerful, not that it won't need "less hardware", because Jevons Paradox which AI obviously follows.

Yeah that's not what it was called

The best stuff he ever wrote was just blatant plagiarism of Lovecraft.
