I spent 8 years as a machinist running and programming CNC machines for the most part and even when I was running multiple machines with high spindle times, it was impossible to make more than like $25 an hour because the boss is quoting $50/h machine time. I got about before the Indian infestation but the trade is being dismantled as we speak because an Indian in Canada trying to get their PR can get it running CNC machines so the pay has dropped dramatically
Can't wait to get stuck in an industry that always has a "that guy" manager who spend all day and all afternoon in the shop because they hate their wife and their children. The guys who's only interest is their overpriced RAM truck and their fantasy football team with a beer gut and all they do TALK SHIT to the new guys and randomly pick one to shit on for nebulous reasons. These faggots will sit in their office for 18 hours and make you stay 4 extra hours when all the work is done. The guys who think they make good money because they work 30 hours of overtime a week for less that 30 dollars an hour and expect you be paid 12 bucks an hour to work 70 hours a week. "But think of all the overtime you'll be getting."
>>537854642I left that machining shit 20 years ago, probably as one of the last true journeyman who did a 4 year apprenticeship. I made 40k as a 2nd year apprentice in 1999, and that's about all I was making as a journeyman in 2006. The trade went to complete shit around 2001.

I was quite good at my job and in a shop of like 3 people at Stratcom, the gap in expertise undoubtedly set them back. Honestly, I don't even care. I hope this entire system crashes and burns.
