The Irish don't have many guns, but they've seen dozens of conflicts and violence on their homeland. Therefore the Irish, even if they aren't as well armed as Americans, are more likely to stand and fight. Not to mention a big issue in Ireland is nationalism due to the country being split into two, and the Irish have lived in their home for far longer than White Americans have in their home.
American gun owners are authoritarians, which is to say they eagerly lick boots if there is actual repression of freedoms going on instead of something like the president wearing a tan suit.
