I used to work with the stuff, even trying to get rid of a hundred metres or so that you accidentally got wrapped around some bushes when you fuck up an air blown fiber replacement is a huge pain in the ass. This is all single mode glass core fiber with a plastic sheathing. This will be a nightmare to clean up, the ground in that area will be full of tiny glass needles from now until the end of time unless they raze the entire area and remove the topsoil. Given the huge scope of the affected land, this simply won’t happen, especially not in Eastern Europe. Glass fiber shards will get consumed by grazing animals, lodging throughout their digestive tract slowly killing them, predators will consume the herbivores and have the same issues. The glass will never degrade or go away because it’s fucking glass. If anything the animals will just continue to spread them over a larger area over time. The plastic sheathing is definitely not UV rated either and those webs are shedding it constantly into the environment. This is an ecological nightmare.
