Don't drink so much that you get retarded. The key to enjoying alcohol is to slow down/stop before you get smashed. OK getting smashed can also be enjoyable but as you point out there are many downsides.
You get a buzz off your first drink and then drink a bit slower so you keep that pleasant buzz until it's time to go home or get ready for bed. If you are drinking a bit faster OK, but you have to know what your limit is and have a rule with yourself about stopping when you reach it so you don't end up puking or whatever.
Also drink a big glass of water before sleep. Having to wake up to go piss in the middle of the night is a small price to pay for minimizing your hangover.

I drink what most of you would consider ‘a lot.’ I worked in live music professionally throughout my young adulthood. Im, now married with two sons and own a small business (bar/arcade). I drink a lot publicly, never keep any at home. Its a crazy way to live, but i know God, and i’m not a creep, and it doesnt affect my family in the slightest. My biggest concern is cancer or some other health side effect from the constant biological abuse and dying in my 60’s. But, so what. My life has been a true blessing. The self discovery on a grander level has been awe inducing at times. As it is, i’m in bed with my sleeping wife after a night at a packed bar/arcade that i run in a small state capital, buzzed, typing this on 4chan. Im gonna wake up in 5 hours, go to church with my family and then duck out before sunday school with literal 80 year olds to play a pinball tournament and drink again socially and probably place at least third. Great movie, highly recommend.

At the time, drinking in the middle of the night. This was end of my alcoholism run though.

After I quit, my sleep naturally unfucked itself after a little while. But it took a couple of months. Quitting was absolute misery but once you're 3-6 months sober your sleep gets better, your body is starting to recover from the constant abuse, the fog lifts from your brain, and you start seeing what's left. The bad news is, you don't get it all back. There's a lot of shit I don't remember and I'm absolutely certain I lost some IQ points along the way. I'll never be as sharp as I was before I started drinking heavily.

Great job anon. I've been sober for 3 years now. Used kratom to stop, then after 6 months, stopped kratom. I was drinking 10+ Molson XXXs a night, pretty much every night. Not the worst but certainly not good

Why do you feel like a complete retard for 2 hours and get severely dehydrated? Sounds to me like you don't know how to drink.
You get a bit relaxed and happy after 1 drink, and a tiny bit euphoric after 2. Then you stop.
Preferably in a nice setting like in the sun on your patio/porch while listening to whatever music you like. If you can't do any of that, you're trying too hard, and need to get over yourself.

I suggest drinking clean alcoholic drinks that aren't packed with tons of sugar like whiskey, vodka etc.
And if you are afraid of a hangover, just drink alot of water before sleeping, even if you are not feeling thirsty. Take a couple of vitamins too if you have them.
Or if you don't feel like jumping trough hoops like that, just smoke weed. 1-3 hours of buzz, no ugly hangovers.

i once read a theory about there being two types of alcoholic: the warrior and the worrier.
the warrior type is aggressive and likes how the alcohol makes him more aggressuve and lose his inhibitions. ends up in drunk fights and beats his wife.
then theres the worrier: an anxious pile of stress. he drink to forget and feel less anxious. when he gets drunk he gets up to embarrassing fuckups.
if you recognize neither of these in yourself, you probably dont have a tendency towards alcohol addiction.
