I've compared outputs and they're bit exact. pngs seem unmodified entirely. jpegs are run through something, and given that the system doesn't check if the output is smaller than the original, that would be where they're doing it. I run my jpgs through mozjpegtran -optimize and 4chan will routinely provide a shittier larger version or refuse to post because its output is a larger file.
