Even during the feudal/medieval times Russia was looked down upon. Now that it's become just another generic capitalist country like every other EU country there is nothing distinguishing it from America or Europe other than a braindead vulgar nationalism and a lower standard of living. everyone is innately repulsed. Hence Russia getting stuck in 1 country for 4 years. They deserve it. If all you have to fall back on is nationalism in order to justify a war then you are instantly defeated vs. everyone else because every other country also has their own nationalists and your claim of being superior is contested by their counter-claim from their nationalists. It's just a silly instant-loss ideology. The people at the top in the Kremlin do not understand this. Their aggressive foreign policy is a holdover from the Stalin days but their society and culture are no longer Stalinist so it doesn't work.
