Any info at all on the firefighters who died in Grand Junction? I had friends on that crew and can't reach anyone.
>>
I suppose its only just that the Liberals in Flagstaff get burnt up by a firestorm caused by their own environmental worship.
>>
>>537991724
I'm sorry.
I lived in Yarnell.
Lost everything including 19 frens.
Only The Brave.
>>
Grand Junction update;

I'm fucking scared dude. Three people I care a lot about work for the wildland crew in Junction, I'd be devastated if they were on the helitack team that got burned over. So sorry for your loss, I remember every engine at the work center I was based at for the USFS had a memorial to the Granite Mountain Hotshots on it.
>>
>>537991557
I check Watch Duty this time of year almost as much as Weather Underground. Great service.
>t. intermountain west is fire
>>
I lost a lot of cool shit in a Mendocino county fire. Shit sucks, it's unreal seeing the aftermath
>>
Is it possible, due to the increased media overage of these fires the last few years, that arsonists are setting most of these wildfires now?
>>
>>537992549
Tweakers with dragging tow chains and shitty cooking equipment cause a lot of them. Waldo Canyon started in a hobo hovel.
>>
>>537992549
I have a theory that it's firefighters. Do you have any idea how much they make in hazard pay and overtime for wildfires? It is substantial.
>>
>>537992287
Yeah.
Saw the lightning strike that started the Yarnell Fire.
I knew exactly what the vegetative moisture content was an the Hell that was coming.
I set my son's to felling trees and my daughters to hosing down the house and outbuildings.
We fought for two days without sleep.
I saw my buddies deploy up the canyon above us, have the last video of them alive. We had two rigs packed and when it jumped Weaver Ridge suddenly everything was on fire.
Escaped with our lives in two badly singed rigs. Had to drive through the fire.
Stopped at the command post and could hear chainsaws roaring in the background as Eric screamed for a slurry drop on their position.
We couldn't tell where they were the fire was every where.
Them more screaming.
Then silence.
The morning after when the sun rose we searched for victims.
The first thing I saw was lines of vultures on burned out buildings to heavy with the meat of man and beast to fly, their wings spread to the rising sun as ghoulish tribute.

>>537992641
Sad situation. It just seems like the frequency of these fires is increasing.
I do realize there's a bad drought in the west/southwest though, so maybe that's the main contributing factor.....rather than a few nuts intentionally sparking these.
>>
>>537992829
They'll let fires in the middle of nowhere burn for longer than they should, but fires have arson investigators and they would get their asses.
>>
>>537992899
Fucking A
>>
lol you guys are fucked at the end of July once Lake Mead drops low enough that power gen drops by 40% and drinking water goes bye bye.
>>
Shit's on fire yo.

Two more days until the Anniversary.
>>
>>537993325
Some of the best people there are.
>>537993229
In Arizona around Coconino the issue is these are fire adapted forests. That's why 4FRI exists: they want to reestablish the fire cycle that results in low intensity undergrowth burns instead of crown fires. Grand Junction is just fucked, they have so much cheat grass and overgrown PJ forest there.
>>
Rest easy Sandra.
I've got this Watch.
>>
>>537993722
Checked.
We need cattle back in forests.
We need selective logging.
We need to use our forests or lose them along with the people and towns in them.
Decades of wacko environ MENTAL ist mis management has caused these legendary firestorms all across the Western U.S.
>>
BACKBURN AT 9016H HAS FAILED
>>
>>537993951
The aversion to logging is ridiculous. I have never seen timberland in Idaho burn like forests in California given similar yearly precipitation. I need to say again this is something Arizona gets mostly right with 4FRI, however they probably started too late for much of the state's national forest land.

It was so bad.
None of us Survivors could look the others in the eye.
Not after a 19 Man funeral we all sat at with weeping and wailing
Wives
Girlfriends
Mother's
Children
Stoic Fathers with year streaked faces.
19 hearses we followed up 89 from Phoenix to Prescott.
A Procession 2 hours in the passing.
19 sets of boots and helmets.
The night I was coming back from Prescott, and rounded Oso Curve above Kirkland Creek in a dark rain at the stroke of midnight and there they were, trudging up 89 toward home in their muddy singed turnouts.
I slammed on the brakes and lost control.
Wrecked my truck.
That's all I could take.
The next day we took what we had left and moved to The Hoh Rain Forest on the Olympic Peninsula.
The furthest I could be from The Horror.
We spent 5 years there

It wasn't far enough away so I went to Alaska for 8 years
No one can Know.
A while back I watched Only The Brave to see how hokey and cheesy it was.
Bad mistake.
Very very bad mistake.

God damn dude I can't imagine. I'm worried sick about my friends in Colorado right now. I left on a bad note with them after a big fight about inappropriate behavior and I wish I could take it all back. I fucking love those guys.
>>
i bet our hotshots are there right now.
montana been getting soaked this year.
godspeed AZ
>>
>>537995674
Say hi to Jim D would you? He's a great Hand to have on a fire line.
>>
uh, what's going on lads?
>>
>>537991557
EVERYONE GET ON THE HIGHWAY AT ONCE
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?
>>
>>537993722
Yeah agree with Grand Junction. I used to work for Zion and Canyonlands, and fighting cheat grass is an absolutely Sisyphean task.

Gonna reach out to my hotshot friends and see if they’re being mobilized
>>
>>537995259
GMHS had their problems as well.
There was a lot of "inappropriate behavior" after they stood tall against The Dose Fire and saved Williamson Valley and Mint Creek.
I was there for that one as well, wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with mine own eyes.
They were Absolute Legends.
>>
>>537996119
Umm, there's 6 ways out of Flag.
They will be ok if they start evacuating now.
>>
>>537991557
Reminder that all of this regions water will be redirected to cool data centers owned by Altman/Ellison/etc. The southwest is over

maybe building houses made of polystyrene in the middle of the high country scrub woods miles for water wasn't a good idea after all.

its like flooding.
why do contractors keep building homes in flood zones?

qrd?

I used to live off Switzer canyon (near the Dog Haus), would be a shame if Flagstaff burned to the ground, even if it is full of dirty hippies and drunk Navajo.
>>
>>537996170
They absolutely are. Every resource the state has is gonna go to saving Fruita at this rate, shit is ripping towards there.
>>537996243
Yeah had a big fight with a friend over stupid shit they were doing on the clock. Standard 20 year old bullshit, all seems so fucking irrelevant now. Still haven't heard from anyone but I don't think they were on the crew that deployed.
>>
>>537992959
>We have investigated ourselves and found no evidence of wrong-doing
Also natives start them for more gibs so they can buy more firewater and tobacco. Custer should have finished the job.
