Let's have a serious discussion about why Chernobyl wasn't just an accident, but the inevitable outcome of the Russian character.

The disaster perfectly encapsulates everything wrong with Russia:
>Incompetence masked by arrogance
>culture of cutting corners
>Immediate instinct to lie and cover up
>Sacrificing human lives for appearance of strength
>Denying reality even when your people are literally dying

The Soviet system didn't fail - it operated exactly as designed. Russia today is the exact same.

Implying those don't apply to us

Chernobyl wasn't incompetence though. It was hubris by keeping everything too secret. Even the operators didn't know it was possible to blow it up like that.
>>
we would do all of those and we are definitely currently doing 3/5 of them at least
>>
And the actual production of the show is a metaphor for the West's soul
>show about a bunch of male scientists trying to figure out what happened and how to fix it
>introduce female scientist that didn't exist
>she immediately knows the reactor exploded because of some dust on her window
>tries to go through proper channels but white men won't listen to her
>finds out they are dumping sand and boron on the explosion. Her white male assistant says "that's what I would do" and she says "I know that's what you would do"
>woman scientist gets into meeting with main guys in charge and tells them they are wrong in numerous ways
>she then gets into meeting with Gorbachev and tells him what's what
Again, this woman didn't even exist.

The designers did. It had already caused near-misses and partial meltdowns at other Soviet plants like Leningrad years earlier than Chernobyl.

So Ukrainians are Russian now? Thanks for clearing that up, then the whole war is just a civil conflict, with Russia righfully reining in a separatist state.

Russia is not the huWest.

Her character was supposed to represent the unnamed Soviet scientists who worked tirelessly to investigate the disaster.

>Chernobyl was actually caused by Ukrainians

Funny how "unnamed" and "investigated" became 1 woman that constantly straightened out the white men that were always wrong.

It's Putin's long table unironically.

Great series. I wish the lady scientist actually existed. Idk how empowering it is to seed historical fiction with characters like this. To look up someone you admired only to find out they were a confabulation.

The series sucked because she was in the show. Every ep was just a woman straightening out men. Even the female nurse had to straighten out the old male doctor.

It was the very best and worst. The arrogance, the cover up, waveafterwaveofmen.exe but also the miners, the engineers, the soilders that put it right (or as right as it's going to be for the next 300 years) yes it was cost cutting, arrogance, willful denial, but it was also brilliance, hard work, precision. Kinda sums up the place.
