Croatia: A man from Međimurje ended up in the Intensive care unit after diving in a lake with a garden hose attached to a snorkel while searching for his glasses

The real drama unfolded on Sunday evening in Cirkovljan, where a 57-year-old man ended up in the intensive care unit after diving into a lake at a construction gravel and sand mining site while trying to find his lost glasses.

As reported by the Međimurje Police Department, the accident occurred at around 8 p.m. The man attached a rubber garden hose about eight meters long to his snorkel with a metal clamp and entered the lake. He tied a rope around his waist, took a hand-held flashlight with him and dived in.

His partner remained on the shore, and, judging by the position of the flashlight, she soon realized that something had gone wrong. With the help of those present, she pulled him to the shore with a rope, where the man was unconscious.

Emergency medical services provided him with first aid at the scene, after which he was transported to the Čakovec County Hospital, where he is being kept in the intensive care unit.

After this incident, the police again appealed to citizens to avoid swimming and diving in places that are not intended for such activities and to use only regulated swimming areas under the supervision of professional services.

They point out that gravel pits and other unregulated lakes hide numerous dangers. In addition to sudden changes in depth, the problem is also large differences in water temperature, because the surface layer is significantly warmer than the water at depth. In such conditions, panic can easily occur, which can have fatal consequences.

Idiot. This is stupid.
>>

If I wad his friend I would have farted in his hose when he is down hahaha
>>
>>538025839
Retard deserved it.
The garden hose has a cross section of 3 cm^2. For a length of 8 m it results in a volume of about 2400cm^3 or about 2.4 liters. Since the tidal volume of our lungs is approximately half a liter (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lung_volumes_and_capacities), the men couldn’t breathe with such an apparatus. He could have realized that before diving just by trying breathing through that thingy.

Kek. I had this idea when I was about six years old. I hope he found his glasses though.

why is the hose attached to a plastic bottle on the other end?
>>
>>538026430
Yeah but how deep was the bloke? Gets fucking difficult to expand your lungs a few meters down if the air isn’t pressurized

>>

Should have used a compressor.
>>
>>538026388
What failed?
How did this not work
>>
for you retards that don't know, water pressure makes it impossible to inhale unpressurized surface air once you get under about 2 feet of water.
>>
>>538026506
To store air obviously.
>>
>>538026431
you dont need AI to know the longer a hose is the more force it takes to push or pull air from one end to the other
>>
>>538026527
Somehow I could see this going far worse if he doesn’t know what he’s doing
>>
>>538026568
why?
>>
>>538026431
You are total retard if you think he needed AI for that. Its 2 second side thought to deduce all that.
>>
>>538025839
I connected 8 meters of garden hose and snorkel to my anus
>>
>>538026588
that is gibberish and has nothing to do with it, it all has to do with depth

>while searching for his glasses
how much do glasses cost in Croatia jesus fucking christ
>>
>>538026543
Even if you could breathe through the hose you would just be sucking the same air in and exhaling it back out into the hose. It's breathing with a plastic bag over your head with extra steps. Doesn't help that he had a plastic bag at the end of it if we go by the picture, for reasons I can't imagine had anything to do with anything.
>>
>>538026627
Take 8m hose. Use only this for 10 minutes to brethe.
Come back with result
>>
>>538026525
Or your mom
>>
>>538026611
the water is like a fat person sitting on your chest
except water compresses you from all sides
>>
>>538026506
>why is the hose attached to a plastic bottle on the other end?

Bottle acts as buoy to keep the end of the hose above the water.
>>
>>538026665
that would take minutes
>>
>>538026627
>that is gibberish

try breathing though 8m of hose and see how long until you asphyxiate. it doesn't matter if you're underwater or above water, being underwater just exacerbates the issue.
>>
>>538026406
The difference is that ur pic would indeed work irl.
>>
>>538026738
the hose length doesn't matter when you cant even physically inhale your first breath
>exacerbates
yeah fucking instantly
>>
>>538026688
2 feet of water isn't going to instantly make you unable to expand your chest.
I think you're vastly overestimating the forces at work here.
Pressurized or not, it's still (you) physically expanding your chest to allow air in.

How does breathing work?
A: Air goes into your lungs and that expands your chest
B: Your chest expands and air enters to fill the empty lungs
>>
>>538026826
It does. If hole lenght kills you. You stop doing anything else, you dont even go under water. You stop because your brain told you hey 8m hose cant work. So no water needed at all.
>>
>>538026826
Clearly he was able to breathe initially. he didn't just try to breathe once then drown.
>>
>>538025839
>The man attached a rubber garden hose about eight meters long to his snorkel with a metal clamp and entered the lake
That won't work, due to the rapid increase in water pressure around your lungs at anything beyond surface level. I've tried it.

Absolutely right, you can't breathe freely that deep, the pressure makes it impossible. But by the time he got that deep and realized it, the CO2 from the tidal volume problem probably incapitated him too much.
