Perhaps there is no better metaphor for this administration than this. What is it? Well, it's a fugazi triumphal arch. What triumph is it commemorating? It's DJTs perceived triumph over truth. A monument to a fop.
First, you can't half ass neo classical art. It looks like something Albert Speer would have stored munitions in. It's more brutish than classical. Of course you can see visions of Germania dancing in trumps head, but they shit this out. A plywood frame with some veneer of fabric that is buckling and wrinkling from the Washington summer.
I was 9 for 1976. I remember it well. The whole year had a special feel. The country was committed to the celebration. Bunting and flags abounding, license plates, television specials, all of it. 200 years as a nation. There was a national consciousness about it. The 4th of July that year was unprecedented in celebration. It was a unique time.
Something called America 250 had been in the works for 10 years. Planning in anticipation for a milestone unique on the world stage. 250 years as a democracy. A party to remember. Instead, DJT does what he likes to do, hijack tradition and coopt it into a bastardized Maga event. So he dumped Freedom 250. And you see the result. It's tainted. Few want to celebrate. He has somehow completely destroyed the mood of what should have been monumental in scope. An affair to remember. Instead, you have the arch again. The barebones skeleton of an idea covered hastily, contracts handed out to friends, and once the money is transferred, it's an afterthought. Isn't it obvious? Look at what they delivered for our 250. It's certainly on brand.
