Transcripts from the congressional debates on the 14A in 1866 also made it perfectly abundantly clear that the 14A was ONLY supposed to apply to former slaves and their offspring.But because the final language of the amendment was vague, we have been erroneously granting birthright citizenship to any human shit out on US soil for a century, and honestly it was really a huge deal until the last few decades when we suddenly became overrun with millions of illegal immigrants.Based on the actual language of the 14A, the SC made the right decision, even if the actual application of the 14A is contrary to original intent. It needs a constitutional amendment to clarify it, but that is never going to happen. Not now, probably not ever again based the extreme degree of political polarization in the US.
