Ask me anything /pol/
>>
>>538142694
I don't know guns. I have a question. 3D printed guns can't have the plastic actually be a part that takes a lot of pressure, right? There's metal wherever it needs to hold the blast so it doesn't blow your hand off, or am I mistaken? If there is some minimum metal and the plastic just holds them together, wiring, gluing, etc. Wouldn't it be trivial to make that out of wood instead, with zero expensive 3D printers and filaments and all that bullshit?

Honest question from a retard who knows nothing, please do call me a retard if I'm talking nonsense.

The only plastic is the lower receiver, like most 3D2A builds. There are fully plastic ones, but usually (as far as I've seen anyways) about 1000 rounds then toss. Some of the .22 ones have gone 3000+ because of the small round.

The FGC-9 mk2 really was impressive though, maintained those things last a long time. The AR15 platform is one where replacing the lower every 1500 rounds is just a half hour of time.

Thats on my list when I have some more funds. I'm a bit poor at the moment.

It was a fun project. I want to take it to a range for two full mags test, then just keep as a personal defense weapon, and I'll print more stuff later.

Odysee + LBRY was a brilliant way to keep these designs up indefinitely using a blockchain.

The community really exploded after the FGC-9 showed that a plastic rifle can endure 1,000s of rounds with just a metal barrel. Check out gatalog and defense distributed.

>Also what's your favorite fun fact you've learned from this project that really surprised you?

How modular gun parts can be if you can design the receiver, surprised me. Example, my lower is a Czech design modified with CAD for an AR15 trigger, turning a 40 piece trigger into a 5 peice trigger.

About 5 hours, with an additional 2 for Epoxy (you can see where all the Epoxy is, i needed to reinforce where the mag release button is because the AR15 trigger springs put stress on that part)

>I'll look into what you referenced, I'll admit - guns aren't really my thing but I've been curious on making some whimsical animatronics.

Guns were the big test of 3D printing. Cody Wilson fought a lot of hate early on, and good for him for perseverance. The maker community should have helped him get this on the radar, like it's basically the "worst" (according to them) thing you can "make," so let's get it legal and move on!

i saw something years ago, maybe in gettysburg, maybe on tv, that the civil war rifles wooden parts were made with repeating lathes. they had the master and the chisel followed the contours on the blank.
this seems something much more adoptable and under the radar than a plastic making machine that will get you put on a watchlist.
and the afghans could copy just about any rifle out there and do a pretty good job of it with comparatively crude setups. none of this is as fast or convenient as 3d printing, i know.
you can get duplicating jigs as well as treadle powered lathes too if you want to make your own gun stock off grid. so lower tech is more disaster proof, but maybe not ideal for most people.
but at the end of the day we are comparing ways of making hand blower offers. shiggy.

.32 ammo is more expensive than 9mm, weaker, and harder to find. Its similar to .25ACP in the price not justifying the performance. They make a .32 Magnum round also, it has about the same performance as a 9mm, I doubt his fires those, but once again way more expensive and hard to find.

>>538142886
Depends on the design and materials. You have designs with pipes for barrels to squeeze out a bit more lifespan instead of purely plastic barrels which is true for many zip guns. 3d printed weaponry has its own distinct design philosophy and depends on what materials you have available along with whatever design you choose to use. So it can vary wildly. Purely plastic stuff does exist with I think the exception being the firing pin.

Yes, but that's part of the fun. A new space, about the object itself and less what it is used to do. Thats what the gun controllers still fail to realize. You dont want gun enthusiasm to become explosives enthusiasm.

I got banned when talking about AKs in the fucking AK thread. /k/ommandos would use to hook you up with amazing deals whenever they came up. Most of the time it was cop surplus but goodies from the military was also possible. The rarest were the imports. Those glorious bastards found me an amazing deal on an AK for a limited number of imported AKs from a specialized import company that turned out to be stupidly high quality when I got my hands on it. Fucking unbelievable the kinda shit they would hook you up with.

>>538145986
Yeah, but that anon was clueless, which is why I elaborated. There is a very distinct and unique weapon philosophy that has developed in those circles. Makes that one based brit dream finally become reality. This shit is something any layman can put together with whatever crap they have available and the designs keep improving every year.

Compare that to the stagnant MIC and there is a reason they are so pissy about it. Gun controllers have realized its impossible to stop which is why they are targeting munitions. In response they started developing their own munitions too. Specifically I think they were betting on the 3d printed plastic shells with electric primers to bypass. Been a while since I last checked.

That's how almost all mass-manufactured wooden rifle stocks were made from the 1850s up until fairly recently. Nonsense about the Afghan stuff though, 99% of everything they make is trash and not safe to fire more than a handful of times at best. There's a pervading idea that something like the AK is so simple and cheap to manufacture that a couple of kids can bash one out of an old coke can in cave, but that's really not the case.

You need to befriend some Yugos, or Morrocans probably in your case. Serbs or Bosnians/Bosniaks otherwise.
Most illegal arms across EU are Yugo milsurp. A lot of them saw action, too. Lord knows how many the MENA Muslims have had imported across western Europe. I get shivers at the thought of it and I'm Yugo.
Now this is all entirely hypothetical and I do not endorse it, I am merely edificating since you asked.
If you should, hypothetically, successfully acquire such weapon, beware that not only would you need to avoid being caught over it being entirely illegal as it is, but also because there is substantial risk someone might sell you a piece that's seen action outside the war and they might make you a really sweet deal, but they're really getting rid of "hot" hardware.
I.e. you get busted, piece gets taken, forensics find out somebody in Belgium (or elsewhere) got shot with it... and that's you probably well fucked.

I have a WW2 era Sten SMG. It doesn't work and I have no ammo for it but it's cool. I also have a "turtle" type metal helmet and a vest with pockets for carrying ammo. It was my great Grandfather's from the war. I guess he smuggled it back home somehow.

I am trying to have a conversation with the nip.

Kill a man and you remember.
Kill many and your a kokora.
Kill them all.... Your a Goooooooooooood.

Kokoro" (こころ / 心) is a fundamental Japanese concept that roughly translates to "heart," "mind," and "spirit."

Kokora a slur made by Americans:
to strike fear at the hart mind a soul.

/k/ has turned into a plebbit-tier cesspit that shills for the blue USSR now. The only posters who talk about firearms are all confined to their respective generals.

I am a shoryn ryu 3rd brown belt. I was literally too lazy to take the black belt test, one belt short.

Here's what I can say: the Japanese, like some euros, have been taught that the major wars of 1900s are the fault of arms, instead of policy.

Deterrence dispensed, we want to see everyone globally make their.own defense weapon.

I am glad I learned physical ways to defend myself. After being the victim of attempted homicide? I want a firearm to protect myself.

Then I will just say my peace.

Is this thread going to magically turn up in a Government briefing to help accelerate the registration requirements, tracking and phone home AI monitoring of 3D printers, lathes and CNC machines in the US, officer?

>State Proposals (Print-Blocking Software): States like Washington (HB 2320, HB 2321) and California (AB 2047) have proposed bills mandating that 3D printers include "firearm blocking technology" and maintain state-approved "allow-lists". This would require hardware to recognize and reject printing certain files, rather than just requiring an ID to buy the machine.

Yeah I noticed that. It might as well be the State Department board. I don't know when that happened, but I know it was in the last 2-3 years
>>
>>538142918
/k/ is unironically ass now. Arguably the most shilled board on this platform, yes even more than here. Mods will ban you swiftly if you don't LARP as a NATO officer. They hardly talk about personal arms now, it's all just a bunch of military discussion.

Imagine if r/noncredibledefense and other pro-Ukranian redditors made a board. That's what modern /k/ is
