I have no respect for the SSPX. They see the symptoms (modern unsupported dogmas being introduced to the church) but not the disease itself (the papacy.) They end up speaking out of both sides of their mouth, affirming both that ecumenical councils of the Roman Catholic Church are infallible and that Vatican II is wrong and must be discarded. They are unwilling to submit to the Roman pontiff like a Catholic, but they are simultaneously unwilling to reject papal authority like a Protestant. They exist in an untenable theological flux. Look, it's simple. If you think ecumenical councils are infallible, go be a Roman Catholic. If you think that ecumenical councils can err, be a Protestant. It's that simple. The SSPX wants to have their cake and eat it too. They want to declare ecumenical councils are fallible, but ONLY the ones THEY disagree with; which is a fine position for me to take as a Protestant because I subscribe to Sola Scriptura but it makes no sense for a supposed Roman Catholic.

I don't even necessarily think the SSPX are wrong. I don't respect them or their position, but I don't necessarily think they're wrong. Vatican II has some heinous ideas. Christians clearly do not worship the same God as the Muslims, as the Islamic god is not trinitarian in nature. If you greenlight Muslims for worshipping God as they understand Him, you greenlight every single last non-trinitarian heresy of the last two thousand years because they can make the exact same claim. This is obvious error, and many great saints faced extreme persecution for defending the true trinitarian doctrine from error. The problem faced by the SSPX and the rest of the Tradcaths is that there's nothing more traditionally Catholic than submitting to the pope. The SSPX are probably right more than they're wrong about their exact grievances, but so what? The pope and the magisterium gets the final say on all matters of the Roman religion so oh well. They're about to be excommunicated for the sin of being right, just like the Protestant reformers.
