India was not looted. Imperialism is very costly and the British put far more into India than they ever took out of it.

>>538164765India didn't exist until British people created it. It was the disconnected squabbling remnants of the Mughal Empire fighting a bunch of city states. There was no Indian people or India nation. They couldn't even read their own language anymore. When the British arrived and eventually turned it into a colonial possession, they did so to make administrating the country easier. Rather than trying to rule a bunch of tiny kingdoms and petty fiefdoms, all with different rules and laws and customs, it was easier just to create a subcontinent sized country and put it all under one legal system. The people there just kept the administration system the British had established, as well as things like railroads, roads, civic infrastructure, tax codes, parliamentary system, bureaucracy, military system (but not the sewer system for some God foresaken reason) after the British left because it was far better than anything they could come up with on their own. India as a concept did not exist before the British created it. And for that I am eternally sorry.
