Lazarus is a Jewish last name. Most people know it from the story of Jesus raising the dead in the New Testament but the name also fits with a typical Jewish name (and the familiar version of the name likely came over from the Greek translation of the Bible). Greek name Lā́zāros derived from the Hebrew name Eleazar (אלעזר, Elʿāzār) meaning "God has helped".

As for why she did it. The guy she was seeing just saw her as a friends with benefits type situation. They were both athletes in the same social circle. He didn't find her face that attractive but enjoyed her body. This continued for years and she even tolerated him seeing other people. The problem was that eventually the guy would meet the woman he wanted to be his wife, and he told Stephanie that they had to break it off. Of course, even on this "breaking it off" meeting with her he fucked her, and continued to fuck her. But after the marriage he started to spend a lot less time with Stephanie and she felt this intense jealousy. Which culiminated in a few confrontations, Stephanie ended up confronting the woman on multiple occasions, including the hospital she worked and it got physical. In the end Stephanie decided to kill her after enough of these catfights, actually showed up at her house when her husband was away and had another catfight that tured fatal. Very deliberate I might add, after beating her and even biting her, she unloaded her service weapon into her. Then tried to make it look like robbery gone wrong. In short, it was a crime of passion, driven by jealousy and a desire to be able to have her chance at a relationship with the guy in the triangle. Which given, that the guy had treated her like a friends with benefits from the beginning, that never materialised.
