Roe v Wade was an exception to this sentiment because it is not too old that these people don’t remember it being any different, unlike how they were taught about birthright growing up. Roe is also mired in religious butthurt presumably, however, this same Christian kind of leaning would be “we all need to be good samaritans and help the brown children because that’s surely what my Jesus would want.” And so we have the decision.I think it could have stood a better chance if there were proposals to alter it instead of abolishing it and also give amnesty/free citizenship to everyone already born under it but just be more scrutinizing in the future (like say, the parents need to have been here for a year so that presumably the kid was conceived on US soil etc). The demand to just topple it all and cause a huge headache if what to do afterwards with people made stateless entities (where are you supposed to deport a stateless being to) made it too insurmountable to be assed with.
