Why don't they tariff western companies that have outsourced their production to thirdie countries more for example? I guess that could hurt the profits of the rich people they are lobbied by.

Shipments below 150 EUR get into the EU duty (and at one point, VAT) free and this incentiveized people to order a ton of shit from overseas and put domestic sellers at an extreme disadvantage.

The EU got rid of this loophole but then companies were complaining that they didn't want to keep up with duty rates on individual products so they just made it be a flat fee per item ordered. They're probably instituting some sort of accounting system similar to VAT as well where each shipment will be registered to a retailer and then they get a bill for the fees at the end of the month.
>>
>>538222597
By type they mean "harmonized system" code, which is a big book where every product that you can possibly think of gets a ten digit code assigned to it based off of its innate characteristics and all of the WTO countries use it.

It was written in the 1950s and so is incredibly autistic about textiles; if you order a long-sleeve 100% cotton linen dress shirt, a short sleeve 100% cotton jersey cloth t-shirt, a polyester blend dress shirt, and a long sleeve 100% cotton canvas cloth dress shirt, you will be considered to have ordered four different types of products.

Meanwhile you could order a laptop and a tablet and it would probably be considered the same type of product
>>
>>538222540
Seems like a good idea.
People have the option of living in an economically sustainable society where citizens can make a living from their own work - or - being able to buy lots of cheap consumer shit like a power cable or plastic bowl.

The only problem with this tax is that it provides more funding for an anti-democratic EU aristocracy, instead of that extra money funding air conditioners for hospitals FOR EXAMPLE.

>>
>>538222542
The customs services can't handle it when people order a million different small packages from China, each having a value of 3€ or less. It's an immense amount of work for customs and the packages get stuck in customs because it takes a long time for them to get through all the work it causes them.

This extra duty works as a deterrent against ordering tiny packages and favors ordering larger amounts at a time which reduces the workload for customs and the duty itself helps fund customs for more workforce to handle the increased workload.
>>

>>
>>538222622

>>
>>538222622
it works like this:
>get paid by your employer
>use money to buy a product you want
>china will ALWAYS have acheaper product than anywhere else in the world
>therefore you will buy the cheaper product
>industry dies in europe
>become more reliant on china
>repeat

>>
>>538222540

>>
>>538222626
I think there's a balance between letting our economy rot and productivity
If everything is produced in china there's no point of our existence
If that balance tilts toward one direction we need to implement tolls to increase our own productivity so that we can make money ourselves
>>
>>538222622
>we NEED to become poorer, we just do, ok? i want to arbitrarily pay more money for the same things.
>>
>>538222591
True, it's just another tax targeted at the poor people
>>
>>538222629
Money comes from products, it doesn't just come from thin air
It should ideally be equal to your amount of work and effort toward making something someone else in society wants. (and risk, but lets not get into that)
You shouldn't be able to get money without putting in work, if there's no work due to it being redundant, for example by countries with a larger amount of population making products more effectively, then there's no industry.

We litreally already see this with food taxes, which are meant to incentivice farmers to make food, so that we do not become reliant on other countries for our own food supply.
The reason why is self-evident.
>>
>>538222622
you go first
>>
>>538222631
reliance isn't a bad thing, the bad thing is to try to plant wheat in a desert like the (saudis?) did and waste a bunch of resources in the process for no reason at all when there's perfectly good wheat you can exchange for money.
when you choose to compete with china on cheap electronics junk there's no reason to believe that junk will be cheap, or have the same quality at all, in addition to all the capital wasted setting up the factories, and the environmental damage from mining the resources for said junk. so why would you do that?
for an advanced economy i can already tell you it won't be cheap and that it's better to find something else to sell them.
in the event that the chinese chase the same autarkic idiocy to the very end, and somehow make everything and provide every service in the world, they'll be a country with no markets to sell their junk to, because no one will have the money to buy their junk. so you see, you can't actually go all the way into one direction.
>>
>>538222576
>de-industrialize
>demilitarize
>close the nuclear power plants

>>>>>decide at this point it's a good strategy to assrape your population with even more taxes.

>>
>>538222617
>put domestic sellers at an extreme disadvantage.
Only in the low quality foreign goods market. Local businesses actually making high quality products have been at a disadvantage for decades. They're in a different niche focused on quality with a much higher price.
>Chinese-made socks direct from china: $2
>Chinese-made socks in a local store: $5
>NZ-made socks: $20
Saving the local businesses importing chinese goods and marking them up does nothing for anybody. They should go out of business. Adding a flat duty fee does almost nothing to help the actual local producers.

They just want more tax money to embezzle or waste.

Americans were made fun of for
1) Trump using trade deficit numbers as alleged tariffs set by the rest of the world against the US
2) Some people being surprised that they were the ones who were paying them
3) taco
In general, there's nothing unusual about tariffs.

Even though this is partly due to lobbying of various EU-based retailers who import Chinese goods and resell them at a profit, it's still a good thing. The rise of the amount of Chinese packages has been insane ever since the normies found them (pic). This floods the customs. At least these days the postal services aren't forced to deliver the packages at a loss due to worldwide postal agreements where China was paying hardly nothing due to being classified as a developing country.

The flood of cheap chink goods also ruins flea markets and similar places. When once you could get some old good quality stuff there, now it's all chinkshit. People selling handicrafts? Nah it's all cheap chinkshit that people are trying to profit from.

There's also a lack of quality control. Products may not fill certain safety standards. Toxic levels of chemicals, electronics that might be a fire hazard, etc. "But the same product is being sold on amazon". A while back I bought a travel adapter on amazon. Some months after I got an email about a recall notification due to non-compliance, and a refund. That doesn't happen when you buy your chinkshit directly.

The less cheap chinkgarbage floods this country the better.

If you look back 50 years the only things that has gotten significantly cheaper (TVs, electronics, AC) are the ones who got outsourced to poorer countries and everything that involves a lot of local human labour (construction, healthcare, education for examples) has gotten significantly expensive. I find it strange people think this outsourcing trend only benefitted the factories. Western purchasing power largely relies on outsourcing, how else do you think you can buy a large TV for $300 nowadays? The reality is that Western companies have a lot of thank to China and other poorer countries

I didn't know you had it that bad in the globohomo capital zone. Here in the colonies I get flawless 5G everywhere except the most remote villages. Although my town finally got fiber recently so I'm planning to sign up for it.

Mediatek SOCs don't natively support BCn compression, you can emulate it, but at that point you're running graphics without hardware acceleration so performance is atrocious for Windows emulation. Your best bet is Steam Remote Play or that Nvidia cloud gaming subscription.

>Especially funny coming from your country which has been fighting against continental Europe for several centuries
All of Europe used to fight for centuries. The Germans tried to conquer the whole continent. But that's in the past. Nowadays there are much stronger countries outside of Europe than there used to be, and those countries will probably try to dominate Europe, which will be easier if Europe is divided.
>China seems like a threat from a competition standpoint but other than that I cant name a single thing they have done against any Euro country
See things like this:
>ASML Holding NV, a Dutch computer chip manufacturer, has reiterated its accusations of IP theft against China-based Dongfang Jingyuan Electron Ltd, created by an ex-ASML employee, Zongchang Yu.
>Dongfang, however, enjoys protection from China’s government

>But that's in the past.
Nigga your latest attempt to control the continent with Brexit. The whole shtick was teaming up with the US to cuck Europe it just did not work out but there was an attempt
Also I remember all these posts about how you are going to be like the next Silicon Valley after you kick out all the plumbers and replace them with VC founders from India. You have very short memory but this thing happened before the Indian immigration of Canada so this was actually a common talking point

As for ASML it is completely cucked to USA which just restricted the use of their latest AI model to Europe just after threatened to invade Greenland a few months ago which was after starting a trade war against Europe.
If anything the start thing would be to team up with China against the USA in terms of AI. Europe obviously cannot stand up against the USA on its own, it is starting to become obvious to everyone now
China being able to develop cutting edge semi-conductors would also be a huge benefit to Europe since we dont have any frontier factories.
>>
>>538222764
If there is any "productivity boost" or any sort of advance capability in any scientific area you can be sure the US companies are going to restrict usage to Europe. They have already one that.
