it's basically free compared to US oil

It's like driving into an oven too narrow for you to open the car doors and escape from...

You're right about that. I think they should make it like an ordinary gas pump where you have to step out of the vehicle, except that here it would do everything automatically, based on AI training of the model itself, camera recognizing the parts and the state of the battery, if there's fuckery afoot, etc... Finally they started making these. I was wondering how long it would take because ordinary charging sucks. Gas still reigns supreme.

why not hydrogen?

The problem with charging is the huge amount of power it takes to charge fast, which is both dangerous and hard on the grid, especially if there's lots of EVs. To charge a car battery in the same amount of time it takes to fill a gas tank requires about 2 megawatts of power.

No it's just storage space and demand.

Just make a bigger box for batteries. No grid upgrade required.

The batteries contain electricity which is very, very dangerous. I've even heard of people getting electrocuted. Wild stuff
>>
This is how large warehouses do it for PIT (forklifts and whatnot).

Smaller scale they do just plug in the trucks manually, but large ones that need 24/7 uptime have battery changing stations that hold a few dozen extra batteries that get charged until they get swapped.
Also allows mechanics to do preventive maintenance on the batteries.
This would work well for a major city but the infrastructure probably doesnt make sense outside of major metro areas.

>you have to step out of the vehicle
that defeats the purpose of being able to avoid the undesirables

Who owns the batteries?
>>
>>538242685
How many people are fast-charging, though? Are there a lot of people using their EVs for more than ~200 miles in a day?

the Chinese people

I think this battery swap system would have to be fast charging otherwise how could they keep up with demand?
Given how small that site is, I think the point is to charge the battery as fast as possible onsite so that it is ready for the next swap.
>>
Lmao at the retarded Muttoids ITT not knowing CATL.

Chinese is leading battery tech, and EUpoofters openly want China to give them all the tech, lmao.

No really, who owns them, because a big point of those batteries is that they lose capacity and you have a giant bill to replace them
But if you keep randomly swap them on those points, who foots that bill?
>>
>>538242685
>hard on the grid
China's grid is divided into flywheel stations. No one's using fast-charge or driving long distance there. They have public transportation

>Ooops sorry we don't support your car anymore since it's more that 2 years old. I guess you'll just have to buy a new car!
