Why is dancing such a big part of the American culture? I get that it's entertainment, I get that Hollywood was invented in the 1930s during the great depression and its entire purpose was to keep the impoverished masses distracted and in an irrational hopeful state for a better future (this is where happy endings come from too btw), so from that perspective anything to do with entertainment is considered as a stabilizing factor in American society. But the idea that the harder the circumstances get, the more you start dancing seems a little counter-intuitive to me.
