A few months after it happened, though, I do wind up helping helping mom clean out some of his stuff and I pull out what I am pretty sure was nothing more than a wood-handled throwing knife of no particular provenance but seeing it she stopped what she was doing and said something to the effect of "You know, where he was in the Scottish Rite, I think at the top they do something with the Devil." Normally I wouldn't but I asked her what made her think that and she looked at the knife and basically rephrased the same thing she'd said and maybe included the vague "It was some of the things he said". I left it at that. This was basically 30 ish years ago. I think I still have the knife someplace. It's not sharp, not 'cheap' but it's definitely not an expensive thing. I'm pretty sure the only thing interesting about it (7-inch or so thinnish unsharpened blade, thin wood handles on the tang) was that it was made with a ring on the back of the tang that had a hole but nothing tied in it. Not what I'd consider sinister or Satanic.
